I am not sure why they even bother with interviewers if this is what they want. Just have a mic stand and some cue cards if you're that terrified of someone acting like a human being.

Yeah, this is the sort of mentality that caused people to think Aubrey Edwards was "trying to get herself over" when she was just a referee that had things like a name and personality traits. Then WWE wonders why heels can't get heat when they target the interviewers or other personnel. Like, did anyone care when Miz and Morrison slimed whoever it was during the Braun feud? Kayla sounded like she wanted to kick Miz and Morrison's asses. "THOSE...BASTARDS!!"

Yeah, it's about getting the wrestler over, but having an interviewer with their own personality who can emote or react to a wrestler helps get the wrestler over, too. It lifts up everyone. One of the best ways to convey character is to be able to interact with another character. The interviewer can provide a fixed, known presence that characters are then able to play off of, and if the interrviewer ends up being someone the audience likes, it actually makes the heel disrespecting them/interrupting them/insulting them way more impactful than if it just happens against a cardboard box (or vice-versa for heel interviewers with face wrestlers). But of course, Vince is a crazy person and so he's completely forgotten the glory days of his own show and gives directives that actively making it worse because he thinks it's how it's supposed to be even though every period of big success has come while having things be the opposite. It is mind-boggling how someone as successful as Vince has been seems so opposed to literally everything that made him successful. Every day, he makes it clear to us that he is not fit to run the ship anymore.

Because it needs to be an interviewer. Wrestling has interviewers, remember? So we'll get people to stand in front of a screen with the show's logo on it, the little mini-set we make that looks the same in every venue we go to because it's set up to be as repetitive and recognizable as possible. That's how you win the hearts and minds of the world.

When watching older wrestling shows on the Network and watching current programming since September of last year, I finally understood what they meant by interview bots.
In the old days, the interviewer felt like they interacted with everything else even by simple things like having the commentators say "Let's go now to Mean Gene for an interview with wrestler XXX!" and the interviewer would take over with "Thank you, Gorilla/Vince!" and at the end of the interview would go "Now back to you Gorilla/Vince!".
This is completely missing today and it really makes the interviewers feel like somebody behind them pushes a button as soon as the camera comes on and then later, they shut down during their vacant stare into nothingness.
It just seem like such a small thing that would not hurt anybody if they did it yet why they do not do it baffles me.

It just seem like such a small thing that would not hurt anybody if they did it yet why they do not do it baffles me. The beauty of it was that it gave context to the promos happening at all; you'd sometimes get, for example, Gene and Sean Mooney throwing it back to one another (one in the heel locker room, one on the main interview set) during an intermission at a PPV, and since their jobs were to get quotes from the athletes the way a reporter with any team or sport would, it makes it clear "these guys are all screaming into the microphone because giving comments to the media is considered part of their job." It's always been my big issue with in-ring promos when there's no interviewer present: why is this person being given a microphone? Why are we interrupting the matches to do this? Who are they giving their comments to, are they going to be published somewhere or something? Who signed off on this? Then having the "interview bots" doesn't work, either, since anyone who's ever watched an actual reporter do their job will tell you that they don't just stand there with blank expressions and hold a microphone to an athlete's, celebrity's, or politician's face, only to silently stare at a camera afterwards. And as for Dasha, she's demonstrated pretty readily in AEW that she's both drop dead gorgeous and has plenty of charisma, so good on her for proving that she's much more than an expressionless microphone stand. And no, I don't just say that because she might throw a chancla at me from miles away.

Yeah, sure, you get your Cathy Kellys and Kayla Braxtons on their respective shows but you actually have them on TV interviewing people and you might as well put a cardboard cutout of ex Manchester United and Arsenal defender and French international footballer Mikel Sylvestre for all the difference it makes to the on screen product. I'll have you know that it was probably the real Silvestre that was conducting those interviews. The cardboard cutout was what ended up signing for Arsenal.

If non wrestling staff get over, they may want to be paid according, or to go work elsewhere, that's Vince's big fear, same reason for the glass ceiling over most talent and why the refz no longer get to gave names. If you control them, limit how people react to them, they can never up and leave, if they try you can kill them out the door.

Had no idea Dasha went to AEW. Yep, she does some announcing and other stuff, like appearing in the Being the Elite "Spanglish" segments they've begun doing.

Vince is so scared someone is gonna take their star power elsewhere that he's essentially stopped making stars. If he won't even let his Superstars be superstars, what chance does a backstage announcer have?

Mean Gene would've been sacked after a week if he showed up in current day WWE. Like he told hogan at BATB 96 he's got a fleet of lawyers. I'm sure he had an ironclad contract, Big Show style
