This man has been such a big part of my life. From his special effects work at ILM, to MythBusters, to making Geoff the robot for Craig Ferguson’s show, to probably the most importantly to me, Battlebots.
The robot combat field is a really close knit “family” of sorts, with everyone being friendly and more than willing to help out other builders in any way possible. As a result, even if you never personally met them, it is always like a sledgehammer to the heart whenever someone in the field passes away.

Terrible news. Always loved Mythbusters. A brilliant guy.
RIP Grant.

I was legitimately shocked when I read this a bit ago. I still remember him on Craig Ferguson and creating Geoff. Really sad. RIP.

I used to love watching Mythbusters. Grant was always one of my favorites because of his quiet, gentle, nature and that he seemed to be the one that actually understood the science 😄 RIP, Grant.

He also built Geoff Peterson for The Last Last Show and also is the guy credited for robotizing R2-D2 in the prequels.
Never got into MythBusters, sadly (something I've regretted many times over the years), so that regret is compounded very much today.
RIP sir.

RIP sir. he also invented the acrobatic robots Disney is using for Spider-man in their parks (and I'm sure other things) RIP Grant, from all accounts he was a great guy.

Awful news. Only 49.
He will always be Geoff Peterson's "dad" to me.

That one was a gut punch to read. Spent a ton of my teens and twenties watching those guys. Feels like losing a long distance friend.

I know people that knew Grant pretty well and he was not only very talented, but a genuinely good person. He pretty much was who he showed himself to be on screen on Mythbusters and elsewhere. It's a real gut punch and I feel for Jennifer and everyone in the "professional nerd" community that knew him.
Brain aneurysms are so damn scary, too. Like, you can have no idea you have one until it's too late. Grant was in perfect health one moment and the next, just gone like that.

Damn, that's terrible. He was one of my favorites on Mythbusters, and seemed like a really nice guy, too. Brain aneurysms scare the crap out of me. I lost an uncle to one a few years ago. They just come out of nowhere.

The only thing more shocking to me than the fact he died is the fact he was 49. I thought he was significantly younger.
And boy howdy, would I like to reject this reality and substitute my own...
