Edit: Nevermind, apparently this was fake. Leaving this up so that anyone who was misinformed can see it.

Saw on r/squaredcircle that according to Meltzer John Cena will be making one off appearances and is no longer under contract. COME ON GEDO, MAKE HIM AN OFFER!!! It has to chap Vince's ass that every superstar he has that gains the slightest bit of mainstream recognition bails for Hollywood. Anyway... Cena in NJPW would be nuts, Cena as a PPV main event against Cody in the open challenge would be absolutely bonkers. Doubt he'll do either unless he and the 'E aren't as close anymore, but it's fun to think about.

If Vince threw big money at Taker just to keep him away from other endeavors, he’ll surely do the same for Cena.

The difference in that scenario is Taker hasn’t already had a decent career in Hollywood with a chance of getting bigger roles as time goes on. Like, people talk about AEW and New Japan or whatever but come on, dude’s going to be in Fast and Furious 9 next year. If his character’s still alive by the end of it and in 10, he’s getting paid by Vince every so often and getting the heck out of dodge when he doesn’t have to. EDIT: Also, The Suicide Squad is practically done so that’ll be seen at some point.

I don't expect him to go to any other company, but just the very slight possibility of it now happening can make Vince paranoid. Cena would make more money of that too, wouldn't he?

His movie career is starting to take off and he seems pretty loyal to Vince since his entire career was pretty much in the WWE system. could NJPW or AEW throw some ridiculous amount of money at him to get him to go for a one off... maybe? But with what he's undoubtedly earned from Merch Sales in the WWE and whatever he's getting in Hollywood I doubt he needs the money. I don't see him going anywhere for a full time gig again.

Cena showing up on another wrestling company to promote them legit might kill Vince McMahon where he stands.

We're so close to Ace vs Ace, and it'll never happen.

Either Vince IMPLICITLY trusts Cena enough to not go anywhere else except Hollywood and let this contract lapse, or this is the biggest faux pas in WWE history and Vince is in the process of acquiring vials of COVID-19 from black market dealers so he can start extracting his revenge against anyone on payroll....
