Normally, I would have a huge paragraph with my thoughts on the show, but the less said about this show the better. The only good matches were the Kickoff Match between Owens & Murphy, the Tag Team Tables Match, & the 2 Women’s Matches, except for the stupid finishes. McIntyre VS Ziggler was pretty good. But that was it. The Eye For An Eye was horrible and the Swamp Fight was stupid, except for a few spots here and there. Everyone complained that this show would be bad when it was announced, and I said we should be patient. I take that back. Everyone had the right to say that it would suck since it did.
Here’s the History of Extreme Rules now updated with tonight’s resultsHere are the Facts & Stats for Extreme Rules
(Since I already did the work, I also have Bonus Facts (w/*** around them) mentioning things like if the wrestler won or lost despite them doing the opposite at Extreme Rules. For example, if a wrestler won tonight, I mention facts about them losing, or vice versa.)
- Extreme Rules was the 2nd PPV in a row to not have an Intercontinental Championship Match & the 1st Extreme Rules since 2015 to not have one, the 3rd PPV in a row to not have a Raw Tag Team Championship Match & the 1st Extreme Rules since 2014 to not have any Tag Team Championship Match, the 1st PPV since Money In The Bank on May 10 to not have a Women’s Tag Team Championship Match, which has yet to be defended at an Extreme Rules, the 1st Extreme Rules since 2012 to not feature Roman Reigns, ending a streak of 7 Extreme Rules in a row which was the most in History
- Kevin Owens VS Murphy was the 14th Kickoff Match in Extreme Rules History & 12th year in a row, the 1st time since 2017 there was only 1 match on the Kickoff Show, Owens’ 4th Extreme Rules & 3rd in a row, his 1st ever Kickoff Match at Extreme Rules, his 1st PPV of 2020 since WrestleMania on April 4, Murphy’s Extreme Rules debut, his 1st PPV of 2020 since Super Showdown on February 27, & his 1st Singles Match on PPV since he lost to Aleister Black at TLC on December 15, 2019 & both wrestlers’ 1st PPV Opener of 2020
- The New Day VS Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura was the 2nd Tables Match of 2020, the 1st since Roman Reigns VS Robert Roode on Smackdown on January 17, the 4th Tables Match in Extreme Rules History & the 1st since The New Day VS SAnitY in 2018, 1st ever for the Tag Team Titles at Extreme Rules, but the 3rd Tables Match for a Title at Extreme Rules, after Kofi Kingston VS Sheamus for the United States Title in 2011 & The Big Show VS Cody Rhodes for the Intercontinental Title in 2012, with both matches ending in Title Changes, the 68th Tables Match in WWE History, the 7th Tables Match for a Tag Team Championship in WWE History & the 1st since Evolution VS The Dudley Boyz at the Royal Rumble on January 25, 2004, with the titles only changing hands once in a Table Match, when The Dudley Boyz defeated La Resistance at Unforgiven on September 21, 2003, the 7th Smackdown Tag Team Championship Match, the 1st since Smackdown on July 10, the 1st on PPV since Money In The Bank on May 10, & the 10th at Extreme Rules, & 6th year in a row, the 2nd year in a row that the Smackdown Tag Team Titles were defended in a Gimmick Match, Big E’s 6th Extreme Rules PPV & 3rd in a row, his 1st PPV of 2020 since Money In The Bank on May 10, his 3rd Gimmick Match in a row at Extreme Rules, Kofi Kingston’s 8th Extreme Rules PPV, tying him with Seth Rollins for Most Extreme Rules PPVs of All-Time & 3rd in a row, his 1st PPV of 2020 since Money In The Bank on May 10, his 4th Gimmick Match at Extreme Rules, & 1st since a Tables Match in 2018, the 4th Tag Team Title Match for The New Day at Extreme Rules, but only Big E has competed in all 4, giving him the most Tag Team Championship Matches in Extreme Rules History, the 2nd time that Big E & Kingston have teamed up at Extreme Rules & the 1st since they defeated Cesaro & Tyson Kidd in 2015 to retain the titles, Big E’s 3rd Tables Match in his WWE Career, & 1st since The New Day lost to SAnitY at Extreme Rules in 2018, now giving him a record of 0-2-0, with his other Tables Match being an 8-Man Tag Team Match with The New Day & Mark Henry in a loss to The Dudley Boyz & The Usos on Raw on February 8, 2016, Kofi Kingston’s 4th Tables Match in his Career, with his matches being the aforementioned matches, as well as a win over Sheamus to win the United States Title in 2011, now giving him a record of 1-2-0, Cesaro’s 6th Extreme Rules PPV & 2nd in a row, his 1st PPV of 2020 since Money In The Bank on May 10, his 3rd Gimmick Match at Extreme Rules & 1st since a Steel Cage Match in 2017. - Nikki Cross VS Bayley was the 6th Smackdown Women’s Championship Match of 2020 & the 1st since Money In The Bank on May 10, 11th or 12th Women’s Title Match in Extreme Rules History & 7th in a row, the 3rd year in a row that there will be 2 Women’s Title Matches at Extreme Rules, Nikki Cross’ 2nd Extreme Rules PPV in a row & 2nd Women’s Title Match in a row at Extreme Rules, as she teamed with Alexa Bliss in a Handicap Match against Bayley in 2019, making it the 2nd year in a row someone competed in back-to-back Women’s Title Matches, & she is the 1st woman to challenge for a Women’s Title at back-to-back Extreme Rules PPVs, her 2nd PPV in a row in 2020 & her 1st ever Singles Match on PPV in her career, Bayley’s 3rd Extreme Rules PPV & 2nd in a row & she is the 1st ever Smackdown Women’s Champion to defend her title at back-to-back Extreme Rules PPVs, her 4th PPV in a row in 2020, the 3rd year in a row that she wrestled someone 2 years in a row as she wrestled Alexa Bliss in 2018 & 2019, the 1st time in Extreme Rules History that 2 wrestlers are competing against each other in a Singles Match after wrestling each other in a Tag Team Match at a prior Extreme Rules, was the 7th 1-on-1 Match between them, with their 1st match taking place on Smackdown on June 11, 2019, which was won by Bayley & their last match taking place on Smackdown on November 15, 2019, which ended in a No Contest, so in their now 7 previous matches, Cross won 1 match, Bayley won 5 matches, & 1 match ended in a No Contest, Bayley’s 7th Smackdown Women’s Title Defense, giving her the most title defenses since her last reign, which ended when she lost to Charlotte Flair at Hell In A Cell on October 6, 2019 in her 5th Defense, & as of Extreme Rules, her reign has lasted 282 Days, which is the longest of All-Time ***BONUS FACTS: If Bayley would have lost, she would have been the 1st ever Smackdown Women’s Champion to lose her title in her 7th Defense, Cross would have been the 1st first time Smackdown Women’s Champion since Bayley, when she defeated Flair at Money In The Bank on May 19, 2019***
-Though the match didn’t happen, I already did the work, so why should I let it go to waste: Apollo Crews VS MVP would have been the 10th United States Championship Match of 2020 & 1st since Backlash on June 14, making it the 2nd PPV in a row, the 9th United States Title Match in Extreme Rules History & the 2nd year in a row, Apollo Crews’ 2nd Extreme Rules PPV & 1st since 2017 & 1st Title Match at Extreme Rules, his 2nd PPV in a row & 1st Singles Match on the main card of a PPV since he lost to The Miz at SummerSlam on August 21, 2016, MVP’s 3rd Extreme Rules PPV & 1st since 2010, giving him the longest gap between Extreme Rules PPV in History & his 2nd US Title Match at an Extreme Rules as he lost a Fatal 4-Way to Kofi Kingston in 2009, his 1st PPV since the Royal Rumble on January 26, his 1st Singles Match on PPV since he lost to The Miz at Elimination Chamber on February 21, 2010, would have been a re-match of Raw on June 27, which would have been won by Crews, would have been Crews’ 3rd Title Defense, giving him the least number of Title Defenses since Rey Mysterio, who lost the title to Andrade at a live event at Madison Square Garden on December 26, 2019, Extreme Rules extended Crews US Title Reign to 56 Days, which is the shortest reign since Rey Mysterio, who would have been Champion for 31 Days, if Crews would have lost, he would have been the 1st Champion to ever lose the US Title after 56 Days, which is 2 Days more than Robert Roode (54 Days) & 2 Days less than Chris Benoit (58 Days) & the 1st US Champion since Ricochet, who lost to AJ Styles at Extreme Rules on July 14, 2019 to lose his title on his 3rd Defense & if MVP would have won, he would have been the 1st 3-Time US Champion since AJ Styles (7/14/19-11/25/19) & the 7th US Champion to hold the title 3 or more times, the 1st time he would have been US Champion since June 1, 2009, making it 4067 Days between reigns, which is the most in history, ahead of John Cena (3681 Days, 3/1/05-3/29/15), R-Truth (3152 Days, 6/14/10-1/29/19), & Dolph Ziggler (2192 Days, 12/18/11-12/17/17), & would have been his 1st Singles win on PPV since he defeated Jack Swagger at SummerSlam on August 23, 2009, & now would have been the 1st time since 2017 that the US Title would have been not defended at Extreme Rules, & for the Record, I will not count MVP winning by Forfeit in my Records
- Rey Mysterio VS Seth Rollins was the 1st ever Eye For An Eye Match in Extreme Rules History, Rey Mysterio’s 4th Extreme Rules PPV & 1st since 2011, giving him the 2nd longest gap between Extreme Rules PPVs, after MVP (2010), & his 4th Gimmick Match at Extreme Rules, his 1st PPV of 2020 since Money In The Bank on May 10, Seth Rollins’ 7th Extreme Rules PPV, but 8th match since he competed twice in 2019, tying him with Kofi Kingston for the most Extreme Rules PPV Matches of All-Time, his 6th Gimmick Match at Extreme Rules & 4th year in a row, his 1st PPV since Money In The Bank on May 10. & was their 2nd 1-on-1 Match against each other, as Mysterio defeated Rollins by Disqualification on Raw on December 16, 2019, so now in their 2 matches, Mysterio has won 1 & Rollins has won, & since this was not the main event, Rollins did not compete in his 5th Extreme Rules main event, which would have been a record, beating his own record of 4, & he would have been the 1st to compete in 4 main events in a row
- Asuka VS Sasha Banks was the 8th Raw Women’s Championship Match of 2020, the 1st since Raw on June 22, & the 4th PPV in a row in 2020. This will be the 11th or 12th Women’s Title Match in Extreme Rules History & 7th in a row, the 3rd year in a row that there will be 2 Women’s Title Matches at Extreme Rules, Asuka’s 2nd Extreme Rules PPV & 1st since 2018, which was also a Title Match, as she lost to then Smackdown Women’s Champion Carmella, her 5th PPV in a row in 2020, Sasha Banks’ 2nd Extreme Rules PPV & 1st since 2017, which was a Mixed Tag Team Match, her 2nd PPV in a row in 2020 & her 1st Singles Match on PPV since she lost to Becky Lynch in a Hell In A Cell Match at Hell In A Cell on October 6, 2019, & was the 2nd 1-on-1 Match between them as Asuka defeated Banks on Raw on January 29, 2018, so therefore in their 2 matches against each other, Asuka won 1, Banks won 0, & 1 match ended in a No Contest, was Asuka’s 4th Defense of the Raw Women’s Title, making her the 3rd Champion in a row to have 4 defenses or more, after Ronda Rousey (11) & Becky Lynch (9), as of Extreme Rules, her reign has lasted 70 Days, tying her with Nia Jax for 7th longest reign of All-Time, was the 14th No Contest of 2020, the 1st since Smackdown on July 10, the 1st on PPV since Backlash on June 14, the 2nd at Extreme Rules, & the 1st since John Cena VS Ryback in 2013, therefore no Women’s Title has changed hands at Extreme Rules since 2012 ***BONUS FACTS: If Asuka would have lost, she would have been the 1st Raw Women’s Champion since Alexa Bliss who lost the title to Sasha Banks at SummerSlam on August 28, 2017 to lose their title on their 4th Defense, & the 1st since Bliss, who was Champion for 63 Days to be Champion for less than 100 Days, as Lynch was Champion for 398 Days & Ronda Rousey was Champion for 231 Days, & if Banks would have won, she would have been the 1st 5-time Raw Women’s Champion in History, giving her the most Raw Women’s Title Reigns in History & her 1st Raw Women’s Title since she lost to Alexa Bliss at SummerSlam on August 28, 2017***
- Drew McIntyre VS Dolph Ziggler was the 8th No Disqualification Match of 2020, the 1st since NXT on July 8, the 1st for WWE proper since May 11, the 1st on PPV since WrestleMania on April 4, the 18th Extreme Rules Match at Extreme Rules & 12th year in a row, keeping it as the only match to take place at every Extreme Rules PPV, the 7th WWE Championship Match of 2020, the 1st since Raw on June 15, & the 4th PPV in a row, the 19th WWE, Universal, World, or ECW Title Match in Extreme Rules History & 3rd year in a row, & 1st time since 2018 that there will be only 1 WWE Title Match, the 15th Gimmick Match for a WWE, Universal, or World Title & 2nd year in a row, Drew McIntyre’s 2nd Extreme Rules PPV in a row & 1st Title & Singles Match at Extreme Rules & 3rd PPV in a row in 2020, his 2nd Gimmick Match at Extreme Rules & 2nd No Disqualification Match in a row at Extreme Rules, Dolph Ziggler’s 7th Extreme Rules PPV, tying him with John Cena, Kofi Kingston, & Roman Reigns for 2nd most Extreme Rules PPV matches of All-Time, & 3rd in a row, his 1st PPV since WrestleMania 36 on April 5, his 1st time wrestling someone other than members of Heavy Machinery in a Singles Match since he lost to Mansoor at Super Showdown on February 27, & his 1st WWE Title Match on PPV since he lost to Kofi Kingston in a Steel Cage Match at Stomping Grounds on June 23, 2019, his 4th Gimmick Match at Extreme Rules, his 2nd Extreme Rules Match at Extreme Rules & 1st since he lost to Baron Corbin in 2016, the 5th 1-on-1 Match between them, with their 1st match taking place on Smackdown on July 5, 2013, which was won by Ziggler & their last match taking place on Raw in a Steel Cage on December 31, 2018, which was won by McIntyre, so now in their 5 previous matches McIntyre has won the last 3 matches, with Ziggler winning the 1st 2, was McIntyre’s 5th Title Defense, which is 1 more defense than Brock Lesnar who lost the title to McIntyre in his 4th Defense, as of Extreme Rules, his reign has lasted 115 Days, making him the 46th Champion to have a reign over 100 Days & the 7th Champion in a row to have a reign over 100 Days. ***BONUS FACTS: If McIntyre would have lost, it would have been his 1st 1-on-1 loss since he lost to Rusev by Disqualification on Raw on November 4, 2019, & 1st Singles loss on PPV since he lost to Roman Reigns at Stomping Grounds on June 23, 2019, the 1st WWE Champion since Daniel Bryan who lost the title to Kofi Kingston at WrestleMania 35 on April 7, 2019 to lose the title on his 5th Defense, & if Ziggler would have won, it would have been his 1st reign as WWE Champion, making him the 9th wrestler in History to win both the WWE & World Heavyweight Championships & the 1st since Daniel Bryan***
