What did he ever do except make movies and be awesome? Thank goodness now people seem to get that he's basically the best. Keanu's always been kinda private and shunned the public nature of being an A-List movie star, so all people had to judge him on was the quality of his movies, most of which sucked. He's still not exactly embraced opening up to the public, but he's definitely let some of his guard slip in the last five years, which has enabled people to see that, yeah, he's an awesome dude.

Everything has been so shit lately that Piers Morgan has often been the voice of reason. He just wants attention and for now he's realised being the sensible one is the way to get that attention. Things will eventually return to normal and he'll show he's still vile. However for now we're in the uneasy phase of agreeing with Piers f***ing Morgan.

I see what you're getting at but bad movies =/= bad person (I realize you're not saying that yourself). Some people just get so hyperbolic and ridiculous, you know? At the end of the day he was really just a private guy who made some movies people didn't like.

I think people just love to judge others, and will use any means available to do so, regardless of how flimsy those means are. Keanu makes 15 years worth of bad movies? Oh, he must be a washed up loser. Mark Hamill got the same treatment because he never became a Harrison Ford-like superstar after Star Wars, despite his success as a voice actor and on Broadway (the latter of which he chose to do to avoid being typecast).

Yeah, it doesn't take much. Which is sad, really. Says more about the person judging than the person being judged.

Nicholas Cage and John Travolta.
It's almost like they should star in a movie together and switch places.

Kinda like how Meltzer talks about the hell in a cell and how audiences care more about the performers these days (cause of the matches modern implication w/ violence) And in the way of Keanu and movies, even back then, that’s all he was known for, like you said, he was just private. With social media he’s just shined this reflection of being a good down to earth guy. And now people care more about the performer. I realize that’s not the case with every celeb out there still or the opposite even.

JK Rowling. From pretty much universally beloved author to people realising some of the awkward bits of the Potter series, to that phase of "Ok, all due respect, but we can do without the headcanons about wizards pooing themselves, give it a rest maybe?", to being the transphobic figurehead she is now. It's been a baffling fall from grace.

The Keanu one always kills me. I have soft spots for him, RDJ and Johnny Depp and always have, but with the latter two, I understand people can judge about things I personally believe they shouldn't. Poor Keanu, as far as I know, doesn't even have any demons for people to judge. What did he ever do except make movies and be awesome? Thank goodness now people seem to get that he's basically the best. His wooden acting in the Matrix really dragged him down in the 2000s( which is more the Wachowkis fault). He was seen as a joke for a long time. But now he has a giant resurgence. Starting with John Whick and onward. Now we can't get enough of him. Everybody marked out at his appearance in the Cyberpunk 2077 trailer.

Unfortunately it took his death, but George Michael. Before his death, he was seen as just a washed up guy with a pretty sleazy, substance filled life. Then once he died, all the stories about the level of charity work he did both financially and in person under condition it was kept secret came out. The guy was an incredibly generous human being. The worst thing is that his generosity wasn’t a huge anonymous secret like a lot of media made it out to be. He donated to charities for radio stations and as they read out his donations on air, it wasn’t hidden. He also played a concert for the nurses and medical staff that cared for his dying mother and famously donated all the royalties from Last Christmas/Everything She Wants to Band Aid. Yes, a lot more of the anonymous more personal stuff came out after his death but his generosity was well-known. Just not reported on as much. Then again, the media were never known for their kindness towards him. Don’t get me wrong, he deserved a lot of the shit that came his way near the end of his life. If he wants to get stoned then I couldn’t care less but when he goes out in a car driving impaired and putting other people in danger, then he needed to take responsibility for it. Despite several warnings, he carried on and did time for it. And though he is a personal hero of mine and it pains me to say it, he deserved that jail sentence and couldn’t complain.

Ariana Grande wasn’t a very popular person for various comments and doughnut-licking. Then terrorists attacked her concert in Manchester. Her reaction to it and her actions that followed were widely praised and (certainly in this country) her persona changed from a spoilt brat to a sweetheart.

The Osbournes transformed Ozzy Osbourne's image from that of a drugged up hellraiser to a doddering buffoon.

I always heard a bunch of people talking about how he was a shitty actor (which is true) but not much else. A lot of this is just people getting That One Role. Julia Louis-Dreyfus was a (kabillionaire) has-been, then she gets Veep and everyone suddenly is like "Oh wait, shit, she's like the best comic actor alive today; I forgot."

I knew he'd be respected one day. I had Faith. In fact, I'm going to celebrate him by doing the Jitterbug. You have the Freedom to celebrate however you want. This post was Flawless and Amazing. I Want Your Sex? Ok funny man. Let's go Outside. I know I’m not really part of this conversation, but... Wake Me Up Before You Go... Go....

Wild to think about how at one point people found GG Allin repulsive and generally undesirable.

Richard Branson. He’s gone from an inspirational, fun loving trendy uncle type to evil tycoon who sues the innocent parties if he can’t get his way. It’s a total U-turn in his image, and one that he’s brought on himself.
