Feels very Nights-ish in its look, and as an action platformer it looks pretty fun.

Honestly kind of get a Mario Galaxy vibe from this. Glad to see Yuji Naka is getting a chance to try something new.

So, sounds like this game is pretty bad. Also the final boss involves seizure inducing flashing imagery.

Man, I liked the look of this a while ago but everything I hear about it leads me to think Yuji Naka saw Cyberpunk 2077, turned to CDProjeckt and went “Hold my beer”.

So someone asked Yuji Naka about the seizure boss fight and I hope this is a lost in translation sort of thing:

Honestly I'm wondering what the hell even happened with this game. I played the demo the other day wanting to like it despite all the trash talk thrown its way and it just immediately struck me as wildly incompetent on every possible level, like even on the PS1 this would've been seen as cheap crap playing like it does.

I just think its cool that within the last week we've had a really fun platformer come out that boasts some really charming graphics. effective gameplay, cool power-ups, and fairly well executed, albeit simple plot.
Unfortunately for Yuji Naka, that game was Kaze and the Wild Masks which is much cheaper game than Balan Wonderworld is evidently a far better value.

Ooooh, didn't know that was from the makers of Owlboy. Will have to check that out at some point.

Between the art style being charming and the gameplay essentially being DKC (especially 2) in all but name, its pretty quite enjoyable.

The game has been bombarded with positive user reviews on Metacritic, presumably from random users who likely don't speak English as a native language.
Personally, this game is an example of "looks nice, plays bad". My experience with the demo sealed this game's fate as I tried it on the Switch, a system that I knew wasn't exactly going to be known for performance, and yet it was optimized like molasses. The whole stage play aspect of the game created an uncanny valley for me as random characters are doing one dance over and over again, only to phase out of reality when you walk up to them, not to mention how the "everything with one button" that the demo presented several logistical problems.
Was there something to be salvaged from this? There was clearly creative thought into the game, but a game has to also be "fun".

Yuji Naka really seems like he has a little bit of that Hideo Kojima problem of having a really creative idea for a project, but then forgets the game has to be, well, a game.

I thought the thread title said Yuji Nagata's new game.

So I'm watching a commentary on the demo of this game and apparently everything is mapped to one button.

So some notable news of the "major oof" variety, but apparently 1) the game, across *all* of its available platforms in Japan...sold less than 2,100 copies its first week on sale in the country, and 2) the Switch version of the game is apparently so bad that it is currently the 4th lowest rated game of the entire 1,988 game Switch library with review scores on Metacritic right now.

I thought the thread title said Yuji Nagata's new game. A Streets of Rage style beat down with Nagata and Nakanishi cleaning up Tokyo’s streets from yakuza.

The hits keep on coming for this game. People have noticed one of the songs in the game’s OST is basically a note for note copy of a song from, of all things, the god damned Ghostbusters soundtrack.
