AEW Women's Division Discussion

The division has problems but the issue is rooted in a fragility of booking, no reason they couldn’t do a say Leyla v Shida match on dark and try and start a feud between them. But it’s Tay, Hirsh, Shida, Rosa and Deeb racking up wins against unsigned talent every week so it doesn’t feel connected. (Yuka should lose to Britt, Ryo lost to abadon, you can still work in part timers to soften blows) Let the big names eat losses against each other.

It’s kinda clear from your posts you weren’t aware she wrestled for AEW before, haven’t seen any of her matches that would impart better judgement, etc, and that’s ok! There’s nothing wrong with that. Wrestling watching and opinions should not be uniform.

But you’re drifting between “nobody cares about her” which has totally been proven false and “she’s not that great a worker”, and both hit a bit soft given her resume and the random Jumping Bomb Angels standard she has to match but nobody else does?

Don't think I've missed an aew show & I couldn't remember her. At the very least ppl here have said she is one of the best workers in the world (I think somebody said THE best). I don't see a transcendent worker, certainly not some one I'd have on dynamite ahead Tay or Rosa or Abadon. Flooding division with part time joshi talent is a backwards step & emphasis should be placed on storylines

You’ve either missed shows or just don’t remember her, either is cool. I’m fairly sure the only claims I’ve seen in the thread are here being among the best. I dunno about “transcendent” but whatever that means, I don’t think Rosa or Tay have done that and Abadon certainly not. Not really gonna judge your evaluation of Yuka though since if you haven’t seen what’s made available on AEW it’s unfair to ask you to look elsewhere which you seem unopen to, so your call there.

I hardly think her showing up to do YouTube tapings for a few shows and maybe two dynamites is “flooding” the division. AEW not being able to accommodate that would speak to their own problem. If Yuka wasn’t there for that limited booking they’d be doing the same thing

Yuka hasnt been to the states in two years, is suddenly overseas, on rings she hasnt seen, teaveling to new cities, with a pandemic still going. Imagine being in Japan during the pandemic and a week later you're in a hotel room in Texas. A botch here or there isn't a big deal. Yuka is a very popular worker, and AEW fans, for the most part, like and respect Joshi. You can tell by the chants she got.

Like, Yuka isn't the best worker in the world, but she's got to be near the top in likeability. Her charisma is off the charts.

She's still a damn fine worker too, as she showed in the Japanese half of the women's tournament.

I can't wait to see Miyu finally appear in AEW.

One thing that the current landscape has that is going to be a big plus for the women's division is great mic work. Britt has improved big time, Nyla is still great in an old school way, and even others like Big Swole are great.

Oh damn, Yuka didn't put on a five star match with frigging Penelope Ford so all the sudden she isn't a great worker. Give me a frigging break. The fans were chanting "YUKA" during the match, went nuts for her theme, and from what little of the match we saw with Ford it was fine. Let's just ignore the amazing matches we saw of her during the tournament or before the pandemic. I guess going by this logic Shida isn't that great because she had a bad match with Big Swole as well right? Not comparing her to Shida mind you, just saying one meh match doesn't mean they don't deserve the respect they've earned or the place they hold in the fans hearts. It's insulting to them and their fans to see their popularity and go "Yeah but..."

I was extremely impressed by Britt’s promo last night. She’s been cutting great promos all year, but coming from when we started and she barely could say a word at commentary and came off really bad, to now cutting really fire promos.

I would say, to AEW’s credit, despite them not being on tv much, all the big name women have been booked really strong and they usually always win. They just need to get on tv. I agree with you the big name women need to wrestle each other and on tv.

I actually liked how they had Nyla and Vickie respond to Britts promo right away, IMO Britt vs Nyla should be next weeks main event, some might not like if the IGWP US title is seen above the AEW Women title.

I wonder if the Swole vs Diamante feud is gonna remain on Elevation/Dark.
