Leva Bates is really slow/unathletic and just bad overall in the ring. Keep her in her backstage role, please. I'd also rather have fewer women's matches on dark if it meant the ones we did get were longer. I don't see how these 3-minute matches are really helping the green talents AEW has. I'd rather see one or two matches the length of what Red Velvet and Tay got on Dynamite a couple of months ago. She's a low card worker that's safe in the ring. Company's need those kinds of wrestlers on the roster. Not like she's taking up time on Dynamite. Also, fewer women's matches on Dark means less work for those not contracted, and less work for those that are to improve in the ring. Even 3 minute matches gets work in and gets independent wrestlers a chance to try out for a contract.

Leva vs Madi was the worst AEW women match in a while, for a moment it looked like I watching Kaitlyn vs Maxine.

You're acting like she's Rosa Mendes out there, she does some fun stuff and does a lower card act perfectly. Also she's incredibly over and her matches get a ton of views so... idk what to tell you, people love Leva Bates. Also these women's matches matter, reps matter. Getting these matches in is invaluable to the talent involved. With how Dynamite isn't seemingly ready to commit to more than one women's match on TV at the moment, these girls are developing on DARK to add to the depth of the division, and DARK is a limitless show in terms of matches, it doesn't hurt anything for the girls to work.

I'd argue that Penelope Ford vs Rahne Victoria was worse than the Bates/Madi match by a mile.

Leva and Allie are similar by being better in tag teams with their partners carrying the workload, and having someone to play off.

Compared to the high end of the women’s roster, the low tier women (Mel, Leva, Allie) are really not good.
Tag might work for them, but not singles.

Fair point by Borger about Brandi getting pregnant is a positive for the division to focus on someone else..

Leva's a comedy wrestler and she works best in that environment and with people who can also work in that style. That's not a knock on her. She fits a role that is needed in wrestling. But she has to be paired with women who can also work with that style.

Fair point by Borger about Brandi getting pregnant is a positive for the division to focus on someone else.. Brandi really isn't even that focused on? She's only had four matches on Dynamite the entire year (only one of which she won) and had no matches at all between January and June.

I'd rather watch 10 Leva matches than one Penelope Ford or Britt Baker match.
I dread the inevitable Baker title run.

So what rating you would give the women division in 2020?
I will be kind and give it a C- because of how the division has showed improvement after Full Gear and the stuff pre pandemic was interesting, though most of the year it was treated like a total afterthought and Shida not having a great run besides Nyla run being hurt by the pandemic.
There were a lot of negatives like Brandi feuds bombing aside from the Anna Jay feud, Mel being signed only to be a worse wrestler than Nia Jax, bringing up Cameron and no one caring, the lack of development involving the Sicarias, the overpushing of Swole, etc.
The positives were obviously Shida, Thunder Rosa, Anna Jay surpassing expectations, the signing of Tay, the rise of Britt Baker.

I think that's pretty fair: some early improvements, pandemic played a big role in hurting things, but there was still more that could've been done in spite of the circumstances. Ultimately, I have to think what was tough for them to overcome was thinking they'd be able to run with a lot of the foreign talent as the established vets while allowing their in-house trainees to grow and develop, only to have that rug pulled out from under them and be left with a division heavy on young, less experienced workers just getting their TV legs under them, and thin up top where only Shida, Penelope, and a couple of others have been able to be around consistently since the start of the pandemic (i.e. Nyla and Swole missing time early on, Britt getting injured, etc.). End result was a lack of established challengers for Shida, made worse by the fact that you really don't want to have her run through the same established opponents multiple times. But again, there were other steps that could've been taken in the meantime to pick things up a little more, like doing more with La Sicarias and the like.

I thought Mel was technically signed in 2019? Regardless, she's quite possible the worst wrestler I've ever seen that is supposed to be an actual wrestler, as opposed to the barely-trained models WWE would trot out there during the height of the Divas era. She's even worse than Velvet Sky, which is saying something.
I'll give the division overall a C. Would've been lower, but they have been making some improvements the past month or so. Still has a long way to go, but they're taking the right steps at least.

The Sicarias have been a big letdown, and that has more to do with booking, like why on Earth has Rebel gotten more mic time than them?, I can understand Penelope not getting mic time because she doesnt seem to be confortable on camera, or TayJay because they are still raw, Ivelisse, Diamante arent bad on the mic and they would really benefit if they at least got some vignettes, Abadon is another one who also needs vignettes.

All 4 Women last night looked great.
Tay has improved a lot, as has Penelope Ford and Britt is more than likely going to be the next Women's champion.
As for Anna Jay, sky really is the limit for her, she's going to be their female biggest star and one of the bigger female stars in wrestling very soon. She's a Becky Lynch waiting to happen.
This women's division is really going to take off next year. These 4 Women along with Shida, (who's been the benchmark and carried the division on her back through the first half of the year) Rosa (basically a formality that she signs when her NWA contract runs down) Nyla, Deeb and a returning Riho ( rumours that she's commiting to AEW full-time and moving in with Shida) and Statlander when she returns.
Plus keep developing the likes of Red Velvet, Jade Cargill, Abadon, Kylinn King and Leyla Heirch.
Plus the more experienced vets like Ivelisse, Diamante and Shanna.
The building blocks are in place for an awesome division.

With the likes of Shanna, Riho, and Statlander slated to return in 2021, the Women's Division is gonna get a big shot in the arm which I'm excited for

I'd rather watch 10 Leva matches than one Penelope Ford or Britt Baker match. I dread the inevitable Baker title run. Britt has been solid as a rock since her return from injury. I'd go as far as saying that she looks like a new wrestler since then she's improved that much. Penelope isn't far behind her when she's at her best either.

Britt Baker isn't going to outwrestle the likes of Shida or Rosa, but ever since she's found her confidence as a heel, it's like she's a brand new worker. She's solid in the ring and excellent as a promo.

I feel like Anna Jay is one day going to be the face of the division. For as little experience as she has she is damn good.
