Maybe they think that enough time has passed now where people will be nostalgic for it. Last time, it was kind of too soon if that makes sense. Now whether or not it will actually be any good only time will tell. Yeah, slashers are slowly coming back with the Halloween and child's play reboots (and kind of IT) being successes. I like the weird slasher permutations like HAPPY DEATH DAY is GROUNDHOG DAY as a slasher and THE FINAL GIRLS is LAST ACTION HERO as a slasher. That shit owns.

Hell, 'Freaky' actually didn't turn out half-bad either, though the connection to 'Freaky Friday' was barely there.

Ok, so Courtney Cox was on The Drew Barrymore Show talking about Scream 5 since it’s done and they were both in the first one.
The video is above but the important thing you need to know about is her saying that the film is not a sequel, it’s not a remake, it’s not a reboot but a kickstart to a new franchise.
With the same name, characters and likely setting as the originals but nothing to do with them.
My…my head hurts.

No remake No reboot Not a sequel Not a spin off
But same cast...same name...but is the start of a new franchise...but not a remake or a reboot.
Think someone left Courteney in the celebrity cryotherapy chamber too long.

She probably means new characters are the focus in the same cannon as the original franchise but very little to do with the main story. Probably like Samuel L Jackson’s 2000 Shaft film.

I'm guessing it's a reboot, but people think "reboot" is a dirty word, so they don't wanna use it.

I really hope this ends up being worthwhile. I appreciated Scream 4, but looking back, there wasn't much of a point or connection to the previous 3 besides spoofing remakes. What made Scream 1-3 great (although 3 wasn't too strong) was that they all added a new connection to the whole story of Maureen Prescott's murder setting the stage for a serial killer's rampage.

IMO Scream 4 was basically a remake of the first movie...just without really any of the charm outside of Hayden Panettiere who was just Sidney 2.0. Like you said what makes the first 3 work so well (even though 3 is not as strong as the previous two movies before it ) is it is a solid horror trilogy with a narrative that carries through all 3 movies of Sidney trying to overcome the trauma over her mothers murder but people around her keep exploiting that in different ways. Idk what they plan to do with this one other than finally kill off the main cast.

Ah the scream and fast and furious crossover damn didn't see that one coming. Always figured Dewey was Doms long long brother fromn his mothetrs side twice removed cousin of Han.
