I've never been to a Shoney's.......is this just a regular sit down restaurant? Or a buffet? Because...........well, hell, these days both those types of places are suffering. What they meant to say was "We are closed due to being a Shoney's that somehow hadn't gone out of business yet." From what I'm reading, they were on the brink of extinction circa 2000 when they went bankrupt (one of those "they simply opened too many and it cost them"). They were at 168 in 2006, doesn't seem like it's climbed up from that since (locations in 16 states, currently in 17 states). And I can't believe this sentence exists (from their Wikipedia pg): .....no Shoney's that existed in 1998 exists in 2020. Good grief. The closest Shoney's to me in my state changed to a Japanese restaurant two decades ago, which is still around.

Sucks. Covid is costing a lot of people a lot of money and in some cases their livelihood. I’m sure that Poppa Pump will be fine, but hopefully his employees can bounce back. A lot of businesses will have to change considerably after this. Buffet restaurants like Shoneys I feel will have to either close them or restructure to more of a cafeteria setup. Also being a fast casual roadside place you have to potentially deal with out of state people who are not keen on following your states mask order. I had this problem at a Cracker Barrell. I work in a restaurant and we had to shut our salad bar down indefinitely. A Chinese buffet in town opened up during this and they got shut down. As you said buffets would have to restructure to more of a cafeteria style to even be able to be open. Plus business is already down because of the pandemic. The restaurant business is definitely getting hit hard, unless you do mostly carryout, those types of restaurants are actually doing better. I was making pizzas during the shutdown and they were very busy, especially on the weekends.

I thought his place was open a bit longer than 4 years. I remember the commercial with him and Rick where it called Scott "Lover of Shoney's." I'm guessing on the road this was his favorite restaurant. This is a shame but not unexpected. I hope he can find a way to bounce back or come back or even rent the property as a wrestling museum. I know Scott isn't the most pleasant and I do believe his wife did a lot of work at the place. She did all the yelp responses so at least she was active. Wasn't Bob's Big Boy the original Shoney's?

One time I guess we had just missed him, but any staff I talked to said Steiner was a jerk, and his wife ran the place. Any specific stories? I know Scott can't find a middle ground between his non wrestling persona and his character so I'm guessing he was pretty tightly wound.

He thought they would be able to stay open, but after doing Steiner Math he realized it wasn't feasible.

I’ve always wanted to go on a pilgrimage to this Shoneys and visit the shrine to the big bad booty daddy.

Damn, I drove past in 2019 on a road trip from Detroit to Disney, but it’s location didn’t work out timing-wise for a meal.
And I was with my wife, kid, and my parents too and didn’t want to make them all do a detour/overly long wait for dinner just for me to stop at a wrestler’s restaurant.

I've known you all my life At least that's how it seems Never known another way Living out a dream Now I know you're leaving me and I'll never understand Before I let you walk away, I have one last demand Tell me a lie and say that you won't go Look in my eyes and hold me even though I realize you have to walk away No more yesterday You always were my angel Flying high above Always looking out for me Angel that I love But now my dreams are fading like age old photographs That hurt too much to look at now, remind us of our past Tell me a lie and say that you won't go Look in my eyes and hold me even though I realize you have to walk away No more yesterday Maybe we could stay together Maybe it could last forever Maybe if you just tell me a lie Maybe then, we'll never say goodbye I never get enjoyment out of someone losing work, but this song is hilarious.

This is what happens when you let John Silver handle the money.

I felt this story in my soul, hard, and then thought to myself... how is this what wrestling fans are?

I think on What Happened When, Conrad said that Steiner was going to open a sports bar now.

The real reason it's closing is because Steiner has no sugar.
