Yeah and with Rock's better public image it'll go a longer way in getting more eyes on the product. People don't watch sports leagues because of who owns them. Rock will have a real uphill battle to get more eyes on the product if he doesn't get ESPN/ABC back as a partner. You don't get more eyes on your sport by losing ESPN, despite how shitty their programming is. Their promotion is vital to the growth or lack thereof of a sport in the US, ask tennis or boxing or the NHL. You honestly don't think there will be people who will go "wow this is something Rock is working on, ill peep it." I've literally seen 3 people online who said this within the past hour. There's numerous things people will pay attention to depending on who's backing it. That's common sense and standard marketing.

I think the difference in ownership is absolutely negligible. Will they have ratings better than the start of the 2nd iteration of the XFL? Probably not, unless they get it off the ground while we're still starved for live events. Are more people going to watch every week for a guy who has very little to do with the on-air product? That'd be kinda weird, honestly.

Yeah, his name being attached to this could make a difference When people hear The Rock or Dwayne Johnson they think success and fans of him will give it a try just because. He's put his name behind TV and reality shows and it has worked. It's not the say XFL is going to be some massive success but the money he has put up is worth the risk of this becoming something decent and he can flip his investment later or possibly make a little bank as part owner

1995: The Rock is cut from pro football.
2020: The Rock now owns a pro football league.

If Rock owns it and WWE isn’t involved I’ll check it out. I don’t wanna give Vince money but I’ll pay Rock
I look forward to the Miami Brahma Bulls winning three championship

Rock might be one of the smartest career builders I've ever seen, which tells me he didn't do this haphazardly.

The Rock will make this a success. Him and DDP are probably the two smartest businessmen to come out of wrestling.

Dwayne Johnson and the ownership group he assembled bought the XFL from bankruptcy court for $15 million. $15 million for an entire sports league. That's chump change for these kinds of movers and shakers. Even if the inevitable XFL 3.0 fails again, the risk involved is so low that it doesn't hurt to try.

This is so amazing! I am so happy for Dwayne and how far he came from his debut as Rocky Maivia. Vince is a failure doing anything but wrestling. Before he dies he needs to realize he is the best wrestling promoter but in the entertainment world he is nothing more or nothing less. The Rock, his former employee, has far passed Vince in the entertainment world and succeeded in the movie industry where Vince has failed. I hope and do believe Dwayne will be successful in this. He will have the right people working for him or with him. He was also a college football player and has to know a bit more than Vince does and also a bit more about the entertainment business as well. I get Vince is unpopular, but I truly believe XFL 2.0 flaming out is solely due to the Pandemic. What happened afterwards is a bit hazy, but things were looking way up this time before the virus ruined everything.

People want to immediately dismiss anything with Vince's name attached to it. More importantly, there are countless good football minds and businessmen that could help build a successful football league that probably wouldn't want anything to do with Vince, but would gladly jump on board with someone like The Rock.

People don't watch sports leagues because of who owns them. On the flip side, nobody was really watching the Fast and Furious movies until Dwayne was casted and they started making a double f***tonne. He has an it factor very few people in entertainment have. Hell, Titan Games is basically a more aggressive American Gladiators and it’s still on TV because Dwayne backs it.

Do you realize that watching a 90 minute movie FEATURING The Rock is very different than watching a 3 hour football game that really has absolutely nothing to do with him? I am not, and will never, question Rock's wrestling or box office appeal. But you have to realize this is something entirely different. People who watch this who otherwise wouldn't because of The Rock's involvement watching a 3 and out an hour into a game aren't gonna change the channel? Are we considering people's attention span? I mean, I already don't watch shows I like because there's a million options now. You're telling me someone who had no interest in the XFL 2.0 is going to watch, because of the guy who owns the league, and become a diehard fan? In numbers that are going to be noticeable? The league's success will be based upon it's TV deals way more than it will The Rock. I understand this is a wrestling board and it's gonna skew towards the largest wrestling figure ever, but that doesn't mean it's not nonsense IMHO.

Not even in a wrestling sense, Dwayne has a golden touch. He is a genuine megastar and has that ability to get in more fans at least for a short term than literally anyone else. I’ll say it again; Titan Games would have failed under anyone else. American Gladiators was only brought back because of the writer’s strike and got axed pretty quickly when it ended but imagine trying something like that in 2019 and getting a primetime slot on Network television...that’s insane. Yet it’ll likely get a third season.

I'm not sure how that sells 12 hrs of football a week, but I'd love to hear it.

And he doesn’t have to host every game, but he’ll likely be around in some way for every game or have hosts he’s personally approved of to give the rub.

People are going to watch football that has nothing to do with The Rock because of hosts that have nothing to do with The Rock because they're endorsed by The Rock? That's not even a Midas touch. Everything that has touched anything that he has touched, has turned to gold as well. Like a 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon that is ratings gold. Rock has endorsed Roman Reigns as well to fans that actually like wrestling, ratings gold.

Rock endorses hosts who fit what they’re going for with this new XFL, fans care as a result because Rock thinks they work. If sports fans agree with that, great. But it wouldn’t be the main aim. Because the fans knew Rock wasn’t endorsing him. WWE was using him to endorse Roman and fans saw through that right away. It’s a completely different scenario.

Because the fans knew Rock wasn’t endorsing him. WWE was using him to endorse Roman and fans saw through that right away. It’s a completely different scenario. Wait, let me get this straight. Comparing The Rock's involvement in the XFL's weekly games to his heavy involvement (and subsequent success) in a movie is the same. But comparing him professionally endorsing a family member who I'm sure he also personally approves of to him endorsing announcers professionally who he probably doesn't even know is a completely different scenario? I'm saying his Midas touch is because people love Rock on their screen, small or big. The Rock's involvement is going to be entirely different in a sports league, I don't know how that isn't obvious to you. How are we gonna get Rock screen time on the XFL? Is he gonna suit up? Call the action? Are we gonna cut to him handing out beers on the sideline? This isn't a 9 or 12 episode season of an hour show (which probably has longer shoots than an hour, but also does them in a block so it maximizes his time.) This is a 43 game season, 3 hour games, 13 weekends a year. It's VERY HARD to imagine that Rock can fit a sizable on-screen role into his schedule. But THAT is what sells people on the stuff The Rock is on. It's that The Rock is on it. It's that they like watching The Rock. And they're not gonna be watching The Rock. I think is the hangup I have here.
