Am I the only person in the world who liked these games? I was one of those that got sucked into buying a PS1 for WCW vs the World which was a good game. Pretty sure may been the same engine the N64 games was build off of. Even if the book showed a bunch of guys not in the game. No DDP, Piper, and The Outsiders. Then Nitro and Thunder came out, I played the crap out of them both. I guess because I wanted a WCW fix and this was it until Mayhem. They where bad. Thunder teenage me got all excited since it showed a cage and Fall Brawl. My dumbass thought it was War Games. I also bought a PSX for WCW vs The World. It was that mindblowingly good, and you are correct, it used the same engine that AKI, then known as The Man Breeze Corporation, would port to the N64 for those historically good games. Fortunately for me I already had an N64, if was the last console I ever got from my parents. But in regards to who was advertised in the book but didnt appear, I don’t recall Piper or the Outsiders ever being advertised. The cover did indeed feature DDP giving a Diamond Cutter and he was nowhere to be found, nor was Mongo who was the recipient of Lex’s Torture Rack but I would hardly consider him as advertised. The game was a Westernized release of Virtual Pro Wrestling, so the fact that WCW and New Japan had been talent sharing is the only reason we got a licensed WCW game at all, otherwise it would have been more akin to Power Move Pro Wrestling. The NA WCW release was such an afterthought by the developers that last minute THQ, who was publishing the game, had them shoehorn in Sting’s Crow and Hogan’s Hollywood attires. These did not appear in the JPN release. And as a great sidenote, the westernization of the VPW game gave us the amazing abomination of The Turk, who aesthetic wise was Dynamite Kid, but had the moveset and parameters of Vader. f***ing loved The Turk.

The demo of Nitro was bundled with my PC Gamer magazine and I thought it was my computer being too slow to play it, but man it sucked bad years later when I tried it on better hardware and then the console version.
The PC also got shafted with the WWE RAW game from 2002, another horrible mess.
I had better luck playing No Mercy and its variants along with the GBA version of FirePro on my PC.

Am I the only person in the world who liked these games? NGL, I managed to have a lot of fun with Thunder back in '99, as well as WWF Warzone & Attitude. Same here. I even managed to have a lot of fun with ECW Anarchy Rulz. I didn't even know like half the wrestlers as I'd never watched ECW, and still had fun with it.

That wasn't Mongo, That was Chono who was in the game. Piper was the one moving out of the way of Hogan's leg drop. Not sure why I thought Outsiders. My mistake. Which in its own for the WCW roster. Chono was an odd choice for the time. Since the game was based off 96 where he wasn't around hardly at all, until 97 when he went NWO. Still fun those.

Side note I picked up Power Move Pro Wrestling for $5 the same day I got a PS1 & Nitro.PMPW was far superior and it had my boy Rathburn Sally. Who can forget such classic battles, like Area 51 vs Malibu Mike, or The Egyptian's main event run. Another game I really enjoy. The engine takes some getting used to, however. I was a El Temblor guy.His shaking & thunder got me through some tough times.

I made the mistake of trying to play Thunder after I'd played WWF Smackdown thinking it would be the same quality. How wrong I was.
Smackdown was the 2nd wrestling game I ever played after ECW Hardcore Revolution, so to me other games like Attitude and Warzone just had unnecessarily complicated controls.

I think the reason Chono was included was he was a left over from the Virtual Pro Wrestling roster and would occasionally wrestle matches for WCW.

God, I hated those games as a kid. Although I will say I enjoyed Mayhem when it came out. At the very least it had a good presentation and a gigantic roster.

That's the worst feeling. I remember buying a PSX and WCW Mayhem. I was really excited to get home and start playing. Then, within 5 minutes all my excitement was gone and I realized I was going to be spending the day trying to find something redeeming about that crappy game, the only game I owned for my new console. It is the worst feeling as the joy & excitement fades to disappointment & regret. I’ve told my Thunder story on here before.I never asked for Thunder or even mentioned its existence but my mom bought it for me as a surprise.I loaded it and quickly realized it was more of the same. A “friend” from school called who I never talked to away from school but he always seemed to telepathically know when I got wcw games. He wanted me to narrate my gameplay and he was in awe of me unlocking Larry Zbyszko,Rick Fuller and random Nitro Girls. He declared it the greatest wrestling game of all-time. Was your "friend" related to tony schiavone?

What other wrestling game lets you play as a literal cow? None, that's what.

Was your "friend" related to tony schiavone? Sadly no.He was just a true loyalist as everything he was a fan of was the greatest thing ever.He only watched WCW and he only played playstation. He got into fights when people would say N64 wrestling games were better than PS1 ones. The one and only time he came over to my house he punched a hole in my wall after playing Revenge. My parents said he wasn’t allowed to come over ever again and I approved of that mandate.
