They should have the entire focus be on crime being cleaned up in Townsville for a while and the girls have moved on into normal lives. You can even have Blossom and Buttercup not speaking to each other with Bubbles in the middle. The storyline would be around Mojo Jojo corrupting the former villains to return to crime and force the girls out of retirement. He’s doing it not so much because he’s evil, but that he’s lost his way not battling the girls. The first season ends with the Powerpuffs reforming and they and Mojo happily kick the crap out of each other.

Mojo actually succeeded in his plans, and ended up bringing about world peace. But he gets bored because he's so used to being evil and fighting the girls. So, he throws it all away and goes back to his evil ways.

If I had to do a years-later sequel thing that fit within the usual CW personal drama box and with them starting off estranged, I'd probably do something like the girls all continuing to work as heroes but having largely fallen out of contact due to differences in philosophy - maybe have Buttercup largely focused on just brute forcing beating up monsters, Blossom more on taking kind of an investigative position, and Bubbles having developed a bit of a distaste for violence and so more focusing on helping people after disasters or focused on animals or something of that nature. They end up all being targeted by someone - possibly Mojo, possibly Him, possibly Princess, possibly a new character - who drains most of their power, partially to force them to need to go back to working together to be an effective force and partially because it's a CW show and it'd help save on the budget. Naturally the whole situation leaves Buttercup and Blossom rather bitter about the whole situation, but Bubbles kind of serves as the heart of the team who keeps them going while the Professor does what he can to help them with both their work and with coping with it while researching solutions.
It gives you a lot of room for arguments, moping, and all that stuff if that's really important and it saves on the budget, but none of the core group is really actually at fault or a bad person or anything, it's just a family that had drifted apart coming back together to work through a difficult situation.
Also, Buttercup's just such a stereotypical choice to be a lesbian that it's eyerolling and really feels like they're equating being into women with being aggressive and outspoken. I'd go with Blossom because it'd feel the most incidental to her character.

Don't you just enjoy it when the loving doting father is turned into an asshole prick? The Man of Steel Jonathan Kent treatment.

My friend gives his (late) thoughts about the live-action leaked script *warning he gets spicy about the deconstruction of modern superheroes* -

I mean they all do look pretty good in those dresses, but then I never wanted to reach the point in my life where I could say I wanted to bang the Powerpuff Girls.

To be fair, I think the script leak came after the CW rejected it. So Dove is probably right that the script leaking had nothing to do with why they're redoing it. Because it was shit either way.

There was something the other day where some network higher-up said that it was being reshot because they thought it wasn't grounded enough. So they'll probably trim out some of the goofier shit like the robotic bugs while fixing nothing in terms of the actual problems with it.

Yes a show about genetically made superhuman girls who fight Giant Gorilla Redneck Bug Monsters, Superintelligent Monkey Men, literal life sized Amoeba, A Lobster Satan who can literally bend reality, and any other big monster of the week, sure needs that ever coveted grounding in reality! This show is cursed without McCracken.

Nice of her to confirm the script was legit then. It was really confirmed when the original Twitter leaker got copyright struck by CW sighting that they posted "An Unaired Pilot script" so there's that. That's when they truly had to own up to it being completely real.

Dear entertainment industry.
No more self referential deconstructions please.
They aren't smart, they aren't witty. All they do is feature characters undermining the very reasons for their own, and therefore their franchises existence, which a franchise should never do, because you never tell an audience that the series or characters they have previously enjoyed are dumb and pointless.

I'm starting to get the feeling this is going to end up in development hell and never go anywhere.
Might be best to quit while they're ahead and moveon dot org to other things.
