Finland beat Ireland 1-0 in a quite comfortable match. Both wingbacks (Nikolai Alho and Nico Hämäläinen) impressed in their debut. And Robert Taylor, who got relegated in Norway last season was very good in midfield.
And it was a very good time to win. First ever over Ireland. Last time Finland scored against Ireland, Jari Litmanen was playing his fourth match in men's side.

As weird as it is seeing someone with the name Taylor playing for the Fins, it's even weirder seeing a player named O'Shaughnessy playing for them against Ireland.

Taylor's father was actually a trainee in Nottingham Forest in the 80's, before moving to Finland as a semi-professional. O'Shaughnessy's father is from Galway, and Ireland tried to recruit Daniel into the national setup some years ago. Weird to think that Robert Taylor was benched seven years ago in Lincoln Moorlands side. Even weirder is that Taylor's father came here alongside another british player, Dennis Jenas. His son was a fella called Jermaine. You might remember him from somewhere.

Not really uncommon, but still somewhat rare to see it happen with players who can represent British or Irish teams. I remember Carl Jenkinson was part of the Finnish youth setup before declaring himself for the England national team. Ashley Barnes represented Austria at under-20 level, too. I suppose my mindset comes from growing up at a time where British and Irish players even playing outside of the U.K. league system was a rare thing.

Newcastle set to sign Calum Wilson for £20 million. Bit of a steal after the 60 million quoted for him a while ago. Plus a lot cheaper than Joelinton.

Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood have been dropped from the England squad after breaking coronavirus safety protocols.

Seeing a lot of criticism for Andy Robertson tonight. I have to admit, I didn’t watch the match (and yes, as a Liverpool fan I’ll obviously go to bat for Robbo) but he’s a full back playing out of position in midfield. Can he be blamed for not controlling the game?

Oh so Newcastle have signed Fraser as well eh? Well that'll help the pair of them to settle in hopefully (from Newcastle and their viewpoints).

James Rodriguez officially an Everton player. Will be interested to see how he gets on in the Premier League. Hopefully can reproduce the form he showed at the 2014 World Cup.

James Rodriguez. It'll definitely be interesting to see how he does in the Premier League, hope he doesn't do us any damage when it comes to the Derby of course but I'd like him to do well in the other games as I think he still has the ability to do well assuming he can adjust to life in the uk.

I hate the interlull. What an utterly pointless exercise right before the start of a new league season.
Southgate will have learnt nothing other than the perils of picking horny teenagers who have been sheltered from regular life for meaningless glorified friendlies.

Cristiano Ronaldo became only the second player to score 100 international goals tonight, and his total of 101 is just eight short of the all-time record held by Iran's Ali Daei.
Hell of an achievement.
