I'm starting to think that the successes Sony has had with the Spider-Man IP were in spite of themselves (and of course, in the hands of very talented people working on them)>

The show will now be about Peter Parker, sitting around drinking beer and watching football, while Silk is off on the sides wearing a bikini and jumping on a trampoline. And Sony will remember the Spider-Pheromones! with the focus on Males I fully expect them to do spider pheromones and spend most of the season in like the Web Bikini,

That it's 2024 and streaming companies are still thinking 'Jack Ryan = MEN! and The Summer I Turned Pretty = WOMEN!' is pretty depressing I'm completely missing the part where it says that

I’m still struggling to see the problem. Men and women tend to have different tastes? Reacher wasn’t a hit that should be emulated? Nobody likes Jim from the Office anymore? Shouldn’t target men with a show with a female lead? Like, shit on the concept all you want, but I’m confused by why targeting a male demographic is the issue with this show

And where it pertains to this show and how it might suffer from that. Maybe unfair of me to take that interpretation and apply it to Amazon when they themselves haven't commented, but I don't think it's that much of a reach tbh.

The core goals should be to make a great show...period.
I have my own thoughts about why things are failing at the rate they are but idk how to properly relay them so I keep it to myself.
But in general IMO I see no issue with them trying to see what happens with changing who the target audience is for a film/show etc...Reacher is a great example of a show that is largely a throwback to 80s macho heroes and it has garnered rave reviews across the board even though that is a show that genereally is skewered towards a male audience.

It could kind of be a modern day Black Scorpion.

It could kind of be a modern day Black Scorpion. I don't want to see Flair dress up as Silk

In regards to Silk, what makes me side-eye about "skewing to a male audience" for this show, especially when it comes to something fronted by a female protagonist, is that it ends up being code for "ramp up the sex appeal for the straight male gaze."
If it means more superhero action stuff, that's fine. But I've got my doubts because I don't think they would've needed to coat it in gender in that way if it was.

I was being a douche this morning, was intentionally twisting your words and being confrontational. It was completely uncalled for, and not the person I like to be. I'd buy you a beer if we were anywhere near each other hahaha

Sony have let the entire writing staff go, Always a bad sign. It's basically saying the show was dog shit, now we're going to assign the B-Team to it and make it shitter.

I'd buy you a beer if we were anywhere near each other hahaha I dunno if you were doing all that, but I KIND OF agree as far as, that's marketing 101. You find your target demographic, and you're supposed to target ONE demographic not a whole bunch, and you design your product towards them. And demographics in marketing are absolutely stereotypical, that's just the way it is. That said, I watch chick shows with my wife all the time, so I definitely see what Moppy was going for, but from a marketing perspective, that's just how the industry works.
