So it might not lead to anything but Bix spoke on brief Twitter thread with, of all people, Lea Thompson, who seemed to imply she was going to try and get SAG-AFTRA to organize for them. But if it does lead to something....hoooo boy. EDIT: She’s apparently really active in union activities so, again, hoooo boy. I mean, how the f*** aren’t they covered by that already (especially now when the ONLY stuff they’re doing is for broadcast)? They’ve always technically been actors, so was it all just Vince being a roadblock or a bit of SAG making some distinctions that weren’t allowing them in?

At the bare minimum you’d think they’d be covered by whatever the stunt people’s guild is, because, well, they literally do their own stunts.

I think it was on SAGs end of not wanting to deal with Wrestling in general.

Well, it looks like the path for a better working environment for mainstream wrestlers could be paved by Caroline In The City, as we always knew it would.

It's the old sledgehammer to crack a walnut. This company desperately needs a social media policy, to stop wrestlers from attacking fans on Twitter & the like. So what do they do? Ban anyone from using all social media outlets everywhere. Oh, and "we own your real name". Who are you, King bloody Herod? Oh, & I love how they say it's because it's detrimental to WWE's growth. Literally anything except the diabolical product you make, eh Vince? Some reporters said the real name thing specifically was newz.

Given the backlash this has gotten, especially since it's now reached the political world, I would think people in Stamford are scrambling to come up with something to make this go away. A can of worms is being opened that Vince does not want opened. Based on what's been said, Vince had better hope is old pal is still in office after the next election, because a change in regime is almost certainly not going to end well for him. Given like literally everything else going on, the one silver lining for Vince is that the priority will be trying to fix everything else and Vince and WWE will likely be very far back in line.

It's amazing how railroaded Vince might get over this for trying to be even greedier than he already was and try to make the wrestlers even more miserable by taking away sponsorship deals, personal fan interaction, and video games of all things. Like because of this we might see the end of a lot of things if it gets going, including the stupid No-Compete's Clauses or holding wrestlers hostage when they want out of a contract. Vince could lose almost all of his leverage and knowing how tyrannical he is and how much he wants control, this might be the worst blow to his ego he may ever recieve. The wrestlers deserve better and have for a long time, I hope they get it, and I hope Vince eats a ton of shit.

Imagine being head of PR for WWE, every day you wonder what self inflicted BS you're about to walk into.
It's funny that there was a clear creative nosedive when Steph took that over and now she's chief brand officer the brand is increasingly tarnished.

OK, so say this ACTUALLY gets somewhere and the contract arrangements are made to change because of a union... What actually happens? Do WWE make their talents employees to try and keep their exclusive use, and pay all the extra costs like insurance, pension, etc. as stipulated by a union as a result? Or do they keep them independent to avoid those costs, but it’s forced to become TRUE independence and there’d hypothetically be nothing stopping a talent working RAW on Monday and Dynamite on Wednesday?

I am SHOCKED a billionaire would treat his "independent contractors" as objects and stop them from earning more money.

If this goes to court I See a lot of big businesses throwing money WWE's ways because they are by no means the only ones exploiting the Independent contractor status.

Companies like Amazon, Walmart, McDonalds, and a whole slew of others will be rooting for WWE. If WWE's independent contractor status falls, who's next?

So who had, "WWE's business practices start getting attention from actual politicians and it all starts with Vince getting mad over Lana advertising an energy drink?" in 2020 Bingo?

I wouldn't get too worked up about this. They'll put up a stink, but they're grit their teeth and take it like they always do.

It's a legal liability. If someone blurts out something lawsuit worthy (slander, for example) and the twitch channel is publicly perceived as being controlled by WWE (because it uses a WWE owned trademark), WWE could get dragged into the lawsuit.
Apparent authority and vicarious liability to use the legal terms.
Places like th NBA etc do this

Meltzer speculated that AJ Styles talking about testing positive for COVID (brought up earlier in the thread) and also publicly admonishing Heyman on his Twitch channel may have also been reasons that this is happening. To me it still seems like Vince saw all the money and opportunity wrestlers were having and wants to try and pull the plug... potentially to severe consequences.
I think it being a "legal liability" is pretty flimsy given how many NBA and NFL stars and stars across the sports world stream and do these things. Opinions and Views are their own, it's the easiest jargon to get any major corporation out of trouble which may have to do with with their workers or deflect blame, and it would you think be the same for WWE and their INDEPENDANT CONTRACTORS but no, here we are, with WWE shooting themselves in the foot hard with all this bullshit.
