What's the difference between Dwyane "The Rock" Johnson appearing in films, and other "Sports Entertainers" appearing on a different platform to make a living? Am I mistaken that he was under a WWE contract while filming early in his acting career? Is this some kind of "special permission" BS? Well, a big difference is The Rock was THE top guy when he started appearing in movies, so he had way more power to tell Vince to f*** off, your midcarders who have a side hustle are interchangeable cogs so Vince can threaten them. Also, it's not like this is the first time. Once he was in movies, how long did The Rock reeeeally stick around? Anyone who's had any success has been straight out of there. It's extra noticeable if you look at the history of women in the company, Maria on The Apprentice and Stacy Keibler on Dancing with the Stars both got heat for doing well outside the bubble and were released around those times. Those seasons were the only time I watched either of those shows. It works both ways. I tuned into shows I would normally never watch to see WWE performances, then fans of DWtS or The Apprentice tune into WWE to see Stacy or Maria... but WWE being WWE instead of using to this promotion to feature them and bringing in new fans both are punished, not featured and quickly released.

If Amazon isn't willing to hash out a deal with HBO Max they're sure as hell not going to want to give a substantial cut of anything to WWE. WWE might be able to make some money from Twitch but not enough to mean anything whatsoever compared to their existing revenue streams.

Didn't Vince McMahon get a producer credit on Rock's early movies? I think he got a slice of the pie while Rock was under contract but doing other projects.

1. Wow, "control and exploitation". Nice word choice when everyone's calling you an evil corporate overlord. 2. YOU WILL NEVER BE DISNEY, VINCE. STOP TRYING TO COMPARE YOUR PRO WRESTLING COMPANY TO DISNEY.

It's actually some special kind of lunacy to respond to "Hey why are you keeping the people who wrestle for you from streaming on twitch or using TikTok?" with "Well you see, much like Disney"

It's a pretty bold move defending against people calling you exploitative by openly declaring that you're exploiting people.

The biggest difference is that Disney and WB aren't stopping actors from doing their own thing. As long as Chris Evans is just...being himself he can do whatever he wants outside of the Avengers films. This deal seems to imply that anyone who wrestles for WWE is on the clock 24/7 which is...I'm not sure if its exactly illegal but its certainly something

Ya know, I'm almost kinda thinking that Vince himself wrote up that explanation. Who else would use exploitation as a word to explain themselves to the public when other words could be used instead that won't sound completely off?

And have agents that negotiate deals in good faith with the studios.

It's actually some special kind of lunacy to respond to "Hey why are you keeping the people who wrestle for you from streaming on twitch or using TikTok?" with "Well you see, much like Disney" There's something I want to say, but can't quite come up with the proper words to say what I want to say in the way I wish to say it, that sounds authentically like me. There's a lot to it. But I guess the part that I can say is that while I kind of understand why Vince feels how he does (don't take that to mean that I agree with him, however), he needs to get over himself. And that he's certainly not confident in his own abilities as a businessman anymore if he's that opposed to his contracted talent making a side business/brand off of their legal names. The rest... the rest I'm still lacking ability to put the proper words/emotions into.

Looks like Lana's mad at what Meltzer said. Its not like she would know if she was either But I sure some people went after her for it,which is stupid even if it was confirmed(it isnt).

Not much to add, simply that I also think this is just a phenomenally stupid move.
The whole independent contractor thing has always felt like shaky ground as it is, and drawing more attention to it with a "have your cake and eat it" thing like this is nuts.
