I'd say refuse to turn the account or the money over to WWE and dare them to take legal action over it. They don't want this bullshit seeing a courtroom.

How is this even legal? Imagine my job telling me I couldn't do this or that after the work hours. I am sure this is illegal. It's not legal. If this sees the inside of a courtroom, WWE will be torn to shreds. This could be the thing that destroys the independent contractors bullshit.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone either A. calls their bluff, or B. this stuff comes up in negotiations come renewal time and some people walk over it. Beyond that, it's going to end up coming out if some people get more skimmed than others, and that'll be a blow up, too.

I know losing beloved twitch streams is sad, but I don't see as many people addressing the specifics of this accusation (emphasis added): From Andrew Yang's Twitter: "Hearing from talent that WWE is forcing performers to sign new contracts that include twitch. Streaming on twitch will become a work obligation and if talent doesn’t stream they will forego earnings, be suspended or face penalties.Doesn’t sound like independent contractors." If true, it's not "we get your twitch money", it's "your JOB ALSO REQUIRES YOU to do twitch to earn the company money"This straight-up reminds me of the 2011 story about Chinese labor camp prisoners who did physical labor all day, then were forced to play MMPORPGs all night so the prison could sell the virtual loot they gathered. If WWE really tries to create Wrestlers-turned-Twitch-Content-Mills... aside from the main point -- the grotesque indentured servitude of it all -- I'm sure being forced to do compulsory virtual labor would make for some "fun" twitch content.

I can already see it. Wrestlers having to make up dates they aren't working because those shows are canceled by meeting set quotas on twitch hours. Injured wrestlers not being allowed to f***ing rest and recover, but instead having to get on the streaming grind to make up for time they're missing. If this happens, it represents an overreach so disgusting that labour laws may as well not even exist.

Literally If this is true then it's 1. We get your Twitch profits 2. You can't stop doing Twitch, we want you to make money for us, stop doing it, face penalties, even be SUSPENDED? This isn't going to work, I see lawsuits, I see talent opting out of contracts especially if it goes to court. WWE just opened up a giant pile of "Nope" with their roster and there is no way Vince is gonna be ready for it.

I’m willing to bet that that is just Yang misunderstanding what has already been reported in this thread. The “streaming on Twitch will become a work requirement” is probably just that Twitch money will count towards the wrestler’s downside, and the getting fined, suspended, etc is probably just in reference to not turning over their Twitch account, rather than an indentured servitude arrangement. I don’t want to seemingly defend WWE here, given that what has been reported is bad enough, but this strikes me as an outsider to the business not quite understanding the business and, as such, misunderstanding what is actually going on (if what Yang were saying were true, don’t you think that at least one of the established wrestling journalists would have been able to get that info by now?)

Thought that first too, but PWInsider at least confirmed it and gave more info about it, it seemingly will be handled like other PR stuff the talents do.
"Once WWE’s new Twitch strategy manifests, talent appearances will be just another appearance by the company - no different from a match on a house show or an autograph signing in the pre-COVID days - and would not result in an extra payday. Instead, those Twitch appearances will morph into another requirement of the talents’ booking contracts as part of their downside guarantee."

Amusingly enough, WWE considering the Twitch stuff as counting towards appearances might prove to be a costly mistake for situations where injured wrestlers get time added to their contract when WWE is trying to keep them. If they're still able to stream, that strategy gets much weaker.
This, along with a ton of other stuff about this, may backfire on them.

I highly anticipate Brock creating a Twitch out of nowhere where he just plays Solitaire and Minesweeper...for the pure enjoyment of shitting on Vince all over again.
Bork is the hero we need and he knows it.

The one thing that's felt consistently credible about Yang's posts here is that he's not a newz dude looking for outrage clicks; if he's saying he's been told by a wrestler what the deal is, I buy it with way more credibility than I'd give most wrestling journalists, just because it'd be such a weird thing to make up and begin proclaiming so loudly. And now we have some ocnfirmation from Mike Johnson, who is one of the few people I'd trust to break something this crazy in the first place, and the reality becomes clear as day to me. WWE is going for comically supervillainous levels of labour exploitation and dragging people into wage theft. This is sickening and I seriously want to know where the line is ever going to be on some people saying "No this is too much, I'm not watching this shit" because it feels like every few months there's some new event horizon of utter nutf***ery that gets brushed under the rug, writtne off as sounding too crazy to be true or just a reasonable thing reasonable people do. It's not. It never has been.

I hope we get an influx of people self-destructing their WWE-mandated twitch channels. Who's going to be the one to stream Meet 'n f*** Kingdom for "twenty four hours" and really just be going until they get banned from twitch entirely?

Bork is the hero we need and he knows it. I love this so much. If only we could roll it back another level, like "sign up to receive an advanced fax copy of Brock's latest play-by-mail checkers move! Kids, be sure to get your parent's permission to use the fax machine! Some slightly massive charges may apply."This also reminded me of the What's Brock Reading? photoshop post comedy gold, (for example, I'll share Facetious 's video game related one), just in case someone wants to spin off a "What Would (Old/Oldschool Wrestler) Twitch-Stream?" photoshop thread, to think about "Brock Playing Minesweeper" or "Shane McMahon playing Don't Wake Daddy", etc... I hope we get an influx of people self-destructing their WWE-mandated twitch channels. Who's going to be the one to stream Meet 'n f*** Kingdom for "twenty four hours" and really just be going until they get banned from twitch entirely?

I mean, the timing of this and the timing of AEW talents starting to do get-together streams (like the Dungeons and Dragons game Cutler holds every two weeks, or multistreams like the massive Among Us stream with Miro, Kip Sabian, Brandon Cutler, Leva Bates, Excaliber, Nyla Rose, Colt Cabana, Evil Uno, and Goldenboy from the other day) sure is...something.

As long as AEW is still doing solid business, B is going to happen..... it’s just a matter of whether it will actually be a big deal or not.
