So how exactly are Retribution supposed to be heel for trying to bring down WWE and not buying the office's bullshit when for the past 23 years or so WWE has been portrayed as an evil hellhole run by absolute monsters? Pretty much. General inefficacy of the stable aside, portraying a group that’s firmly against WWE’s power structure as “evil” when the company IRL is doing really scummy things to its employees is certainly a choice. well I think he was also referencing how the onscreen authority is always evil too

It’s been Adam Pearce, right? Who by all accounts seems more neutral than any authority figure in the past 20 years.

Why? As they said, they're ready to go after all the "Superstars" out there. But only the ones on Raw, apparently.

I really don't care anymore. This feels like an unfunny version of a future Job Squad 2020.

"discarded and disowned us, leaving us to survive in an unfair world" "we are left to feed on nothing but the scraps of contempt. But contempt is a powerful motivator. We are driven to destroy"
It's good to see all those Forgotten Sons promos the creative team wrote and then couldn't use aren't going to go to waste after all.

The way they were talking I expect them to be a bunch of people who were fired recently. Make the leader Rusev and it will work great.

Last night should have been the first night.
Not execution wise, but just a video interruption during a match with a menacing message and a random attack backstage later in the show would have done wonders for their credibility.

Sounds like they need to be plugged in first.

If the angle had started with the promo yesterday instead of the WWE.com press release announcing Retribution's arrival and name, things wouldn't have been bad. Granted, the promo yesterday wasn't anything special, but it at least would've been something. Seriously. If it had been random glitches for a week, and then that last night? I’d be super intrigued. Instead they’ve been a bunch of dorks for a couple months. Talk about botching an angle! Lol

Lol Yeah, not even have them show up, just threaten to and you can have them break in and make it a massive deal. Instead, they go after a generator nobody ever saw before then, smash a window with two bricks and had the most cartoonish ring breakdown ever. I never understand WWE’s mentality of suddenly deciding “Oh, now they’re threatening” weeks after you needed to make them threatening.

Why? As they said, they're ready to go after all the "Superstars" out there. Nothing says defiance and rebellion like using only the corporate-approved buzzwords and trademarked names for things. Really sells how they're going against the grain. God, you remember the Joey Styles worked shoot? Remember how, at the time, him yelling "wrestling" over and over actually gave it some weight entirely because he was allowed to break free from that mold and shit all over the corporate language? Well good news, they've become so rigid and obsessive that now they can't even let that happen, and the people who showed up to take their angers out on WWE's private property will happily recognize and use their preferred, trademarkable euphemisms. It's a joke.

They did though. They finally talked on Raw about who they are and why they're there Looking it up, it’s still really vague. Like, it isn’t going to be a good chunk of the fired people since they’ve all moved on and the remaining people aren’t exactly anyone people will care about booing for. Also, “we’ll take out anyone that buys what WWE is selling” feels waaaaaaaaay too on the nose right now. so they are faces right?

WWE is almost as bad as not being political while being political as UbiSoft is.

I've been saying we should have been at this stage about... 4 weeks ago. They spent far too long on the showing up doing random shit and leaving without giving us a who are these people and what do they want... also known as a reason to care.

It’s weird how they hyped them up somewhat just to have them be a group of aimless goobers. Like if they’re not going after the top title or actively affecting the show why should anyone care about them?

Also, I hate this Tommy Wiseau-level self-insert nonsense with Retribution just being the embodiment of everyone unhappy with the awful shit WWE does, and making it people who they fired would be worse. I don't know why people want that or what they think the story would come out well if a bunch of people angry that WWE refused to fire them during better times but then cut them loose in the middle of a global crisis for no good reason were portrayed as the bad guys. That's nonsense. WWE doesn't have the goodwill in-universe for this but they super f***ing don't have the goodwill in the real world either, this is the ill-advised insanity of someone who is convinced they have done nothing wrong ever and have no reason for anyone to actually think they're slime.

I like the idea of last night's promo, but the verbiage felt like rejected drafts from Bray Wyatt segments two years ago. A bit more straightforward threats and plain spoken statements about the company would have worked better.
Plus at the very least they should have hacked in or taken over the broadcast. Kind of kills the vibe of a radical faction if they're clearly getting their own segments in the production.

Can't wait to see the anti-corporate-WWE merchandise hit the WWEShop before they even officially debut in a match.
Everything about this sucks. I say go full Wrestlecrap and embrace how bad it is, might be the only way to salvage it. The more they try to make it serious the more it sucks. The time to strike was many weeks ago.

Like if they’re not going after the top title or actively affecting the show why should anyone care about them? Thing is, they will eventually start doing those things and people still won’t care. I think the horse has already bolted for that, through either the whole weird start of it with a pseudo-press release or the on-the-nose political allusions making it so some don’t even want it to succeed even if it were good. That said, I don’t think it’s anything career-killing. Like, it’s proper lame, but lame is easy to recover from with good enough booking (I know, I KNOW, just let me be an optimist, please).
