I hope the new team is called Forgiveness and it's about a bunch of WWE loving pals who just want to make everyone happy by havin' fun and being members of the WWE Universe!

Ali is so screwed. Every time they try and do something with him, he gets injured. I doubt there will be a third chance, unfortunately. We all know how fickle Vince is

I don't think Ali's a good heel. This just comes off like the guy is playing what a typical WWE heel is meant to be, instead of trying to come off as genuine. What specifically makes me want to hate this guy when he spouts off tired and played out holier than thou, preachy heel tropes I've heard so many times before? That's not even getting into the messy juxtaposition he's trying to make by presenting himself as both a nationalistic role model, and a chaos inflicting, anti-establishment gang leader at the same time. Pick a lane, dude. Babyface Ali to me always came off like the gimmick that Muhammad Hassan should have been back in 2005. Granted, a Middle Eastern-descendant hero might have irritated a few intolerant yahoos in the audience back, then, but more than likely that would have resulted in way better publicity over the long term for WWE than them getting kicked off the air in the UK and Australia.

Honestly given Retribution's entire run, concluding in anticlimactic fashion on a pre-show segment and being forgotten about the next night as a quiet embarrassment was the only way it could have gone.

Slapjack going to assemble a Retribution B Team, possibly consisting of Stevie Ray, Horace, and Virgil.

Seriously though... years from now, will Retribution be mentioned like The Shockmaster, XFL 1.0, and Million Dollar Mania as laughable busts and blunders, or forgotten about?

It might get a little bit more of a pedestal because of recency bias and how it came about as essentially a ratings stunt that was dead in the arse before it even got to TV, but over the course of WWE history, it’ll just be seen like every other mishandled stable that lost a lot.

There's the additional complication that it mimicked a very serious ongoing societal issue. It's not quite the harmless crap like a clumsy oaf in a glittery stormtrooper helmet or Vince getting Rick Rolled on live TV.

Yeah, like those two are going to be forever connected with one another in a way the rest of the examples can't be. Million Dollar Mania was, in comparison, a harmless ratings grab.

Make them the heels. Make them the heels, then make them the butt of jokes everywhere. Wrestling just isn't capable of handling a subject that touchy, least of all WWE where nuance and subtlety go to die.

Beyond any links to real world issues, that will be notable about Retribution years from now is such a consistent history of terrible booking with them. Other than Ali's reveal as the leader every appearance of Retribution was some combination of lame, forced, or hilariously pathetic.
The thing with other lousy or unimpressive stables is that they at least had something. The New Breed got a notable Wrestlemania match, the Million Dollar Corporation main evented a few PPVs and had notable focus on them. La Familia had a main event talent at the center, X Factor featured a member with a title, and the League of Nations even had a member as WWE champ.
Retribution has none of that. They were generic goons to start with, never kept momentum on television, never won on PPV, never even got close to winning a title, had no memorable promos outside stuff on social media, and if they'd never shown up, the last 8 months of Raw would barely change. All that time on television and they're the Social Outcasts with dumber names.
