What’s the likelihood of a heel vs. heel final? Virtually zero unless they are insanely popular. EVIL and KENTA are popular but a match with Suzuki or White wouldn't really be appealing You can make an argument Omega vs Naito was heel/heel in 2017 but both guys were close to turning at that point and they were the top guys in the company behind Tana and Okada Thanks. I was trying to decide if they’d do a White/EVIL final. A who’s in charge of the Bullet Club angle.

I think that would be a WK matchup if anything Assuming White doesn't win the G1 he next best marquee matchups are against Okada or against EVIL I would not be surprised if we start seeing White get more of a face turn for next year

I think it’s White or Okada.
Although if we’re taking bets I’m silly enough to say Naito wins, joining the holy three of champion winners lol

I wouldn't put it past Gedo to have Naito win and name Ibushi but there wouldn't be drama in that I still stand by my prediction of Okada/White winning and Ibushi beating them for the case before WK

Jeff Cobb has reportedly signed with New Japan That's a not a surprise They been courting him for like the last two years And he's been pretty upfront about wanting to be there, a big reason why he signed with ROH last year, etc. He talked recently about not wanting to announce where he had signed, but seems to me that was to sell the G1 hype video serving as a de facto announcement. Curious if he's going to be more full time in Japan, or if he'll be playing a big role with the US branch.

Men I was going to go watch it this year and then covid AND my country went to shit at the same time. I'm lucky all I lost was the chance to see this but still bums me a little I dont think I ever will get another chance to go watch live. Unless they have to change the date again which is unlikely

This year feels less predictable than the last. I felt Ibushi or Naito had the best shots, and it was eventually one of those two.
There’s more options here- Ibushi could repeat to avenge his double loss at WK14, White or EVIL could win the briefcase and further the BC rift, or Okada could come roaring back and win the case to prove why he’s still Mr. New Japan.
Tanahashi should have a decent G1 and stay in the hunt a while, but he’s a long shot now.
Still wish Hiromu had a spot, given how good his NJC was.

I would think if everything was full time, they'd want him in Japan But considering the climate, they might as well take full advantage of him in the U.S. branch. Put the title on KENTA and build up Cobb to take the title off KENTA at WK. Of course, you could always give him a proper NEVER run now and have him beat Suzuki which would be a big upset

I was talking to a friend about Ospreay and his involvement with the G1 considering what's out about him. My friend was adamant that he won't watch any matches with him. Understandable but, one of his favorite wrestlers in the G1 this year? Shingo Takagi.
Shingo, if people have forgotten, was guilty of animal abuse during his time in Dragon Gate. Remember that cute monkey they had? Shingo giddily used to choke it on a regular basis, according to reports.

Not making any excuses for anything Ospreay has been accused of, just saying: given he’s apparently going through some severe mental health issues (he confirmed this couple months ago), does he really need to be grinding himself in a G1 at this time?

Some folks in wrestling think that's enough of an outlet to not worry about those underlying issues. It's a dangerous thought process but, that's what they think.

I guess Ospreay might be operating under the idea that performing might take a toll on him mentally, but sitting it out might be worse on him. Cynically, I have to wonder if he's also hoping it will overshadow he and Bea's reputation problems.
As for Shingo, yeah, honestly, that's always been something that makes me find it difficult to embrace him. I hope he's grown since then, but I really don't like to just assume it. I also know that a lot of the stuff with Cora the monkey seems to remain murky as to who was involved, what was factual or made up for the blog the whistleblower was doing from the monkey's perspective, and if it was done to bring to light Cora's plight or if it was motivated by smearing some of the people. In any case, the dojo absolutely should not have had a monkey, and I'm almost going to side-eye Shingo, Tozawa, and some others over it. CIMA I don't think was involved in the abuse, but he did bring the monkey to the dojo as its mascot, so he's an idiot for that much.
