Some interesting picks on this list that wouldn't necessarily be regarded as one-hit wonders on this side of the Atlantic. The Darkness were huge here in the UK for a while, and Wheatus' cover of "A Little Respect" by Erasure was also a big hit. I'm fairly sure American Hi-Fi had another charting single here too, although I may be misremembering there.
It makes me a little sad to see the Fountains of Wayne on the list as well, they're held in pretty high regard by power pop fans and it's a shame that they've been reduced to one-hit wonder status.
Crazy Town, on the other hand...

I went to Ozzfest in 2001 I think and Crazy Town was there. Can't say anybody in particular enjoyed them.

They weren't actively courting mainstream approval, and they both went on to considerable acclaim and decent sales playing to their respective scenes. ETA: I'm also not sure I'd call either a one hit wonder either. Yellowcard had "Way Away" and "Ocean Avenue", and The Ataris had "In This Diary" and their cover of "Boys Of Summer".

Luke's buddy Crash also put out this badboy this week for anyone whose interested in checking out more people like Luke (I actually think he does the same type of stuff BETTER so I can't recommend him enough)

Hahaha..I knew I’d end up loving most on the list w/o even looking just cause of my age. Didn’t really care for “cold” or “flavor of the weak”. I’m surprised “Right Now” by SR-71 wasn’t on the list. I liked “Handlebars” so much I shoehorned it into a production of “Julius Caesar” i was in.

It got drunk girls to dance, though, so...*shrug* I may be distinctly in the minority here, but I actually really enjoyed that album. I've also often wondered how many of the people who loved "Butterfly" were aware that it was basically a hip-hop track built around an RHCP sample, and not something the band had actually made from scratch.

I don't care what anybody says, the 2000's didn't begin until the 9-11 Attacks. Anything from before then is a 90's song.

The Darkness were huge here in the UK for a while Crazy Town, on the other hand... If not for that other sodding one-hit wonder Gary Jules, they'd have been the Christmas number one that one year

That Darkness song was just an excuse for Justin Hawkins to shout “Bell’s end” at a bunch of kids!

Yeah, I really like the "Mad World" cover. I didn't quite get it at the time, but if I knew we were in for seventeen years of X Factor twonks, shit charity singles (the Justice Collective excepted), and LadBaby as Christmas number one I think I would have tried to appreciate it more at the time.

Thank God. That Darkness song was just an excuse for Justin Hawkins to shout “Bell’s end” at a bunch of kids! And? A couple of years before, Live & Kicking were on it's last legs promoting Limp Bizkit shirts. It’s a shameless cash-in. I love that Mad World beat The Darkness to the top. It was a niche song from a cult film that was successful on word of mouth. It’s the most unlikely Christmas #1 ever. Bell’s End was nothing more than The Darkness setting up a pension plan for the future. I liked The Darkness and don’t normally have an issue with people trying to have some success but it was far more cynical than anything the Cowell songs did every year.

Some bands I was surprised not to see: Yellowcard Alien Ant Farm Tantric (especially since Luke is such a big Days of the New fan) The Ataris Alien Ant Farm had Movies, they re-released it after Smooth Criminal with a new pop culture heavy video with a cameo that they probably still technically still owe the label money for, I remember that being big. Attitude was the song where you went this is it for them. Never heard a thing from them after or since.

I wonder if he'll do one for 80s rock, it might be before his time, but it would be cool to see.

The last thing tehy put out that did anything was the song called Glow which was well after Attitude. teh song These Days was also after Attitude.
