It begins and ends with one man, Bad News Brown, he is just not a team player.

Also the only man on his team still alive. The 89 one that is. Valentine is still alive because he was standing on the ring apron most of the match. His teammates were getting hit by 2x4's from Duggan's team while Valentine left unscathed. Valentine had been eliminated before Duggan started hitting people with his 2x4.

Bumping this thread for Survivor Series week.
Also, the Undertaker was only a so-so partner for Ted Dibiase. Teddy spent all this money to find, scout, and acquire the services of a big scary man for his Survivor Series team. Then he presumably had to grease a few palms at the WWF offices to allow him to have a Mystery Partner that he didn't have to reveal until the night of the match. Once the match comes, it looks like a brilliant plan as the Undertaker runs right through half of Dusty's team. But then it turns out he either does not know the rules or does not care and he gets himself counted out beating on a guy who's already eliminated leaving Dibiase to have to deal with Bret Hart himself. If I put through all that effort, I shouldn't have to get my hands dirty, let alone be tasked with eliminating the Tag Team Champions by myself. And I would have a big issue with Brother Love. Didn't you teach him the rules? What am I paying you for?
As a side note, Dusty apparently had already decided he was ready for retirement at that point. Undertaker eliminates him and then beats him all the way to the locker room and Dusty never speaks of it again. Whatever dude. No hard feelings. Just leave me alone.

Well to be fair Dusty really didn't have much to gripe about. Undertaker pinned him fair and square and then kicked his ass afterwards. Brother Love did lay in some cheap shots afterwards but there really wasn't any wrong doings on Undertaker's part as he was just coming to the defense of his manager. Also picking a fight with a scary giant man who looks like a horror movie monster villain, is seemingly impervious to pain, and could possibly be a murder doesn't seem like the greatest idea especially so close to retirement. I think Dusty made the right decision in turning the other cheek on that one. Speaking of Dusty did anyone else find it odd that his son was on the roster at the time and yet he picked Koko B. Ware of all people over him? Like he's your own son and he just took Ted Dibiase to a draw and instead you pick a guy whose never won a big match in his life? I'm sure it was a pretty awkward Thanksgiving Dinner at the Rhodes home that year. "Well you know son you show a lot of potential and all but your no Bird Man".

I wondered one or two pages ago and still wonder. I know the theory was the matches were developed at summer slam based on the outfits and I don't think Dustin was around then but Rick Martel wasn't at summer slam so he couldn't have done his picture then. Plus you have Dusty in his more serious red dot smock rather than the old yellow polka dots in his team picture. Changes were obviously made to the roster late given three replacements so it's not like Dustin couldn't have replaced Koko. But I think the reasoning is two fold. First, WWF probably wanted to give Koko the spot since he had been a loyal employee always losing but also, I can't see Vince rewarding the Rhodes family when Dusty will be bolting in two PPVs.

In that Summerslam 1991 pay sheet that came out years ago they had several guys on it who didn't wrestle but were listed as being on "stand by". I'm sure they still flew in the guys who weren't booked on the card in case a late substitute was needed. All the guys in those team photos who weren't booked for Summerslam but were going to be at Survivor Series I'm sure were flown in. Those being Martel, Bushwhackers, Rhythm and Blues, Akeem, Barbarian, Snuka, Koko, and Tugboat. As mentioned Martel was injured at the time but they were still bringing him to TV to do promos to keep him on television. Along with most of the guys having the same gear I think the big give away is Bad News Brown being in the Million Dollar Team photo as Summerslam is his last recorded match for the company. Don't know else when they could've taken that picture since he wasn't at any other shows after Summerslam. As for Koko they had already included him in the team photo and had told him he was going to be at the event so just taking him out would've been kind of a dick move. Akeem, Rude, and Bad News all quit so they needed to get replacements for those guys.

See, I always thought Koko was in that match so that there'd be someone who could get destroyed by Undertaker and not have their stock damaged in the process. Dude was basically a sacrificial lamb out there.

Ken Patera and Scott Casey from 1988 In Casey's case, he literally replaced a replacement.

The Megapowers Team left a lot to desire once you got past Hogan and Savage.

I know Kurt Angle was technically the worst member of Team Alliance due to being a planted mole by the WWF, and Jericho was also a worse team member in the match due to his temper tantrum almost bringing down Team WWF, but as a WCW loyalist until the bitter kayfabe end, I've got to vote for Shane McMahon. Dude was only on Team Alliance because Vince was originally on Team WWF, but then Big Show subbed out for him. So why the hell would the owner of WCW remain on his team? Get DDP in there or pull from the ECW ranks and get Mike Awesome or Rhyno or somebody, at least for damned dignity's sake.
It's been 20 years tomorrow and I'm still not over WCW's fate being upheld and represented by a team mostly consisting of Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, and Shane McMahon.

Inspired by the other fun Survivor Series threads that have been popping up lately. Who are some of the worst Survivor Series partners? There are the obvious ones like Bad News Brown, but what about someone like Hacksaw Jim Duggan? He gets counted out in 1987. He gets himself disqualified in 1988 leaving Jake Roberts alone against four other guys including Andre the Giant. Then he gets disqualified AGAIN in 1990 and squanders his teams advantage. He even acts shocked when it happens. You should know by now you can't hit people with the 2x4!! You would have to be a fool to try and recruit Jim Duggan for your Survivor Series team. Also, why would anyone pick the Bushwhackers? They don't seem to follow directions very well and then they get eliminated with ease. May as well start the match down two. But on the other hand, the Whackers eliminated people pretty quickly before going down themselves. (Rougeaus in 1989, Orient Express in 1990)

Goldust is the worse partner. 1997 he stands on the side of the ring the entire match. refusing to tag in, when Vader has had enough he confronts Goldust about this, slaps him and throws him into the ring, at which point Goldust gets himself counted out and eliminated. FU indeed sir. i for one will not be putting Goldust forward for representation on my team. Peacock believes that version of Goldust was anti-representation, if you know what I mean.

The Megapowers Team left a lot to desire once you got past Hogan and Savage. Hercules was fine, Koko B Ware was suspect, but dusting off Hillbilly Jim, who hadn’t been a full time competitor in like a year, was the most egregious. I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the main things that made Savage rethink his partnership with Hogan was the Hulkster putting his over-the-hill buddy on this team, indirectly leading to Savage taking maybe the worst beating of his title run. He was half dead at the end of that match.

I would say The Demolition and not because it sounds awesome saying it like Bret-actually it was Johnny V on Superstars match insert that called them that. Ax gets DQed in 1987, they get doublecrossed in 88, Ax gets pinned thanks to Fuji in 89, Smash gets pinned too and along with Smash and Crush being DQed in 90, Ax just didn't give a damn anymore.

That’s a good one I’ve never thought of before. For as dominant as they were (Ax and Smash were 3-0 at Wrestlemania and 2-0 at Summerslam) they sure didn’t fare well at Survivor Series. Their performance in 1989 in particular was pretty pathetic. Totally punked out by a Powers of Pain team that would disband a couple months later.
