I think he should have stayed away for longer, if he tries to pull a "Sting". A more drastic change in attire and music would have had a much more dramatic effect. Ideally, Cody should have stayed behind the scenes for half a year and when (ideally) the pandemic is under control by then he should have returned in front of a large live crowd with longer dark hair, entering to a theme no one has heard before.

I hated this return. If the goal was to pull a surprise attack on Dark Order, why would he announce himself with music and pyro? And if surprise wasn't the goal, then why is he dressed in a f***ing suit if he's out there to fight?

Gotta say. For all the old school stuff Cody tries to ape to get himself over. He’s a dumbass on the hair change.
Southern Rasslin 101: If you’re gonna have a bloody match. Get bleach blonde hair to show off the color more, daddeh.

If it's his natural hair colour, it's better inn the long run as many bleach blonde wrestlers have found that it starts to make their hair fall out over time, it's part of why Crow sting happened. It'll also help the heel turn which we know is coming.

Cool another interesting story element Cody gets to do before anyone else.
Just make your four horsemen group with Spears and FTR and get over with.

But the change from Surfer sting to crow was incremental. He stopped bleaching, then started growing it out, his facepaint got less colourful as he started being doubted by his friends and so on. He didn't just vanish a few weeks and return fully formed.

I will say after not having his natural hair for a long time, his hair looked extra black.
Dude looked like Robbie Rotten.

There should be an episode of AEW Dark where Cody's entrance take up half the show. Just go all in on the over-the-top nature of the entrance.

Unfortunately, I believe the hair color change was for his acting gig with Stephen Amell, and had nothing to do with anything in ring. Cody looks much better blonde IMO, it makes his blue eyes pop.

Don't you bag on Cody a lot? He's probably going to be around quite a bit? Maybe watch a show that annoys you less, or skip his segments?

Don't you bag on Cody a lot? He's probably going to be around quite a bit? Maybe watch a show that annoys you less, or skip his segments? Yeah and so did Triple H and Jeff Jarrett.... The Bucks and Omega are CFOs (or whatever) too and they don’t have over the top storylines and drama all the time. Every time he comes out it feels almost like a parody. When it comes down to way I’m not a fan. He’s just not a very likable face. He’s AEW’s Seth Rollins. Awful face and way to much time devoted to them when there’s more interesting guys on the roster. Maybe I’ll enjoy him more when he finally turns. How could I have avoided his segment when he came out as a surprise? I dunno it feels like any time anyone (not just me) are critical of AEW, people pounce on them. AEW is a great show and long time coming. But it’s far from perfect. Cody’s theme is jam though.

Cody doing the NWA-style stuff will start worrying me when he stops being enormously over and buries people. So far, so good, given him making Brodie look like a world eater, getting Dustin Rhodes a 5 star match, helping raise Darby and MJF's profiles enormously, being a perfect foil for Eddie Kingston's debut, etc. Hell, QT, Wardlow, and some of his other talent scouting has also been good.
If Jarrett or post-2002 Triple H were consistently good at this kind of putting people over, people wouldn't look at them as venomously as they do, but they were seemingly too insecure to share the wealth. Cody hasn't displayed that kind of fragility.
