Is it bad that I am a bit questionable why Kanyon's preferred friends were much younger guys? I am not even sure if he knew. Was it out of acceptance? Just a bit strange as he would have been 10 years or more their seniors I would assume at the time. What a heartbreaking situation....If only he could have gotten proper help. Sinister Minister was amazing...I truly felt he was genuine. I also hope that Mortis sex tape never comes out! Were the younger guys part of a major promotion or cliques? If not there’s another side to it, maybe he was trying befriend folks who weren’t veterans since they could have connections he either wanted no part or both has bad blood.

This episode was to over the place for me……just kept jumping from place to place, random story to another story. Just felt like it had no logical flow. I also am not sure I believe all of James Mitchell’s stories. They could be a little truth in them that has been expanded and ballooned tonflit the sorties narative. One of the weaker episodes for sure

I think it’s funny that John Cena in 2006 was talking about someone else not being good enough. This was around the time Cena couldn’t hang in the ring with guys like Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho, and was also getting mixed reactions from the crowd. He obviously went on to become much better but it’s just ironic to me.

Buy it is worth observing that each generation is less homophobic than the last.

It was a tough watch. After last week some were building this up to be the cancellation of taker…didn’t quite pan out like that.

Sinister Minister was amazing...I truly felt he was genuine. I also hope that Mortis sex tape never comes out! How homophobic were wrestlers of the 80s, 90s, even the early 2000s? How many of the veteran talent on the indie scene in the period he was active were horrendous people, pill poppers and cruel, manipulative honky tonk men? Someone like Kanyon looking for friendship in wrestling would end up around younger guys by default as he's more likely to find people who'd accept him for who he was because they hadn't yet had the macho BS of wrestling drilled into them. If there was any suspicion he was using his fame to do anything he shouldn't with younger guys, it would have come out by now. There have been a million shoots by the indie talent of that generation, the 90s stars who never hesitate to sh*t on the dead because they can't fight back and, let's face it, nobody would go to bat for Kanyon.

I have mental health issues myself and I can't even comprehend enduring such a toxic environment and having it end any other way than it did for Chris Kanyon. F***ing sad. That's what I'm pointing out. That it wasn't about his sexual orientation he was just in the wrong environment for someone with mental health issues. During the whole episode it wasn't mentioned how being gay held him back. It was mostly about his violent outbursts out of nowhere. Going back a little bit, they start the episode by pointing out he was Catholic, and things he was told that it sounded like he internalized. That alone would stir up a lot of uncertainty and issues about sexuality. Add in mental health issues, and yeah, I could see where he'd have issues with being gay that didn't necessarily START with professional wrestling but may have been compounded with everything else he experienced.

Let's be real...he comes out of a box..dressed like boy George singing culture club...then he gets beaten down with the wrong side of the chair by the locker room leader. If anyone thinks that wasn't sending a message I don't know what is. But what was the message? Kanyon wasn't the first openly gay wrestler that was Pat Patterson who was the first IC champ and a long time employee of Vince's. WWE always had gay characters like Adrian Adonis Goldust and Billy and Chuck. Why would they make an example out of Chris Canyon especially that he didn't come out until years later. I they treated like like they did a lot of former WCW guys when they came over after WCW was bought by Vince. I don't see Taker as a guy who would take liberties on another wrestler. Pat was the guy booking them that could actually get them over. It's amazing how homophobia tends to quieten down when you can do something for them. Saying WWE's deeply unpleasant booking of gay characters (Predatory gay Golddust says hi) is proof that they're an LGBTQ friendly company is like saying they're a feminist company because they booked Trish to bark like a dog.

All of this blowback from the PRFH episode makes me wonder.. I'm sure they've already filmed all the episodes for this season, but does anyone else think they may have really narrowed the list of people who might be willing to go on the show now? I'm sure most are down for a pay-day.. but now there's two other clouds overhead in; sounding like a rat, and possibly coming across as tone-deaf to certain situations (ie Dreamer) and alienating yourself that way. Knowing that the creators are such huge fans of wrestling, I wonder if they are like "oh shit.." at the reaction to all this. I'm sure they are glad to provide a platform for people to tell their side of the story but I bet after the PRFH deal there are tons of guys who won't touch an appearance on there with a ten foot pole. I mean, if you're not a shithead and don't say stupid things, there's really nothing to fear. First of all, Tommy Dreamer was barely needed in the episode anyway, then he says stupid shit. Jericho's two cents weren't needed in the Kanyon episode, but he didn't say anything, in this instance, that made people hate him instantly.

I had forgotten that Luke Hawx was so close with Kanyon. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of Hawx anymore, heard way to much about how he treated various people that use to work for Wildkat,I still feel for him after seeing how much Kanyon meant to him.
Really good episode. Wasn't much in it I hadn't heard before. But I've also seen way too many shoot interviews. Back in 2005 or so there was a folder on a fairly well known wrestling forum. In this folder people would post the audio they ripped from shoot interview dvds. Pretty much every day at work I would sit in my office listening to piles of shoots.

No one ever said bigots were consistent about their bigotries. It's why racists love to point out that they have a Black friend that's one of the "good ones." In my own experience I've gotten this shit so many times over the years from dudes who will have known me for awhile, then find out I'm gay, and they have to rationalize it by telling me "nah, you're cool because you don't act gay". As if we're all playing a part or something. I dunno. Like to homophobes I represent the "acceptable gay guy". It always grinds my gears.

Cena literally regurgitated Vince shit, the guy was a company puppet forever. They also went super nice on Taker, it'd gonna be a long time till anyone is willing to honestly talk about him. Dark Side was also super nice with moolah for some reason. I don't think they were nice to Moolah at all. The doc basically ends on Wendy Richter saying "f*** Moolah". The only real concession they make is allowing that moronic simp air time to call her accusers liars.

I had a friend in my D&D group who got told that by this one bigot in the group every single week. Almost like he was trying to convince himself he wasn't really as bad as people thought

I always read that as "goddam I'm so attracted to you, but society won't let me express it in a healthy manner, so I have to reaffirm it over and over to make it okay with my own cognitive dissonance about myself". Imagine a world where bisexual men were allowed to be comfortable being bisexual men.

I'm not sure the bigot was secretly bisexual because he said a bunch of other super bigoted things about race and religion. Eventually he got kicked out of the group for screaming at the DM's wife for "not playing right" so there was a bit more to it than that. You may well be right about a lot of people though.
