Title. Wondering when they started treating Vince as the chairman of WWF instead of just the commentator dude. There WAS a period where they just pretended he was an employee, right?

Ventura made allusions to him being the owner on Superstars at times

I don't know exactly but Macho Man practically admitted as much after the steroid trial without saying it.

The first time I really recall was when Jim Ross made mention of it. I really remember him saying "he fired me twice." I wonder what Vince thought when Bob Uecker said he called him. As a kid I just thought he was a "go-fer" or lowly office employee whose job it was to call the celebrities to come to the events. I really wish he had been that guy all along, I hate the person I see him as for the last 23 years.

In 1984 he was shown at a MSG award ceremony accepting a posthumous award on behalf of his father on TNT. I believe he was introduced as the owner of Titan Sports.

I love that he was acting as a commentator and regular employee for those years.
As a kid, I never imagined that guy would be the owner. I thought it was Jack Tunney.
Its basically like imagining Michael Cole as the owner all these years. We hadn't got Internet back then.

I always wondered why Vince, as an ‘employee’, would never complain to the WWF ‘owner’ Jack Tunney about the abuse he’d get weekly from Jesse Ventura. Little did I know...
If memory serves, during some mid 90s Raw commentary Shawn referred to Vince as ‘the boss man’. Not that blatant, but not exactly subtle either.

I think he was first acknowledged as owner on TV in 1997.

WWF Magazine told me; his name was listed alongside the editor and contributors.

I knew he was the owner thanks to the Apter mags. Same here. They were covering some of Vince’s legal troubles around 1993, and eight year old me thought “well, he does seem to be a very important person in WWF.”

I knew he was the owner thanks to the Apter mags. Huh. Didn’t think they’d be a place to do that but interesting.

Todd Pettingill at the 96 Slammys- "The Warrior is back, tell me will you blow your stack? Hey Warrior! Hey Warrior! I'm Like your biggest fan, but how much did it cost Mcmahon? Hey Warrior! Hey Warrior!"

That 1993 charity video is the first time I remember it definitively being recognized, but there were other clues. In the Coliseum Video credits, it always said “Special Thanks to Vince McMahon” at the end and he was listed as an executive producer in the Saturday Night’s Main Event credits next to Dick Ebersol. You might not have known he was the owner, but it was clear he was more important than he let on.

If anyone out there is this oblivious even with the internet and social media existing and hell the walls of kayfabe shattered all around us for the last 25 years, I'm not envious of how out of touch you are with the world.... Get help. Get mental help.
