It must be hard for people who knew him in real life but I think Heyman kind of nailed it during some interview he was giving: “f*** him. Two people didn’t have a choice that day, Chris wasn’t one of them. f*** Chris Benoit”.
Ugh, just last night “Whatever” came on my shuffle during my workout and I was like “f*** you benoit for ruining this awesome song”.

he was well liked enough backstage before the murders to fill a two hour show with tributes, lets not pretend that he wasn't.
after the truth came out as to what he'd done then perception on him changed drastically and rightly so.

A part of me feels kind of conflicted on Benoit. By all accounts his brain was basically Swiss cheese by that point and it's hard to tell just how much he was able to logically chain together thoughts as that sequence of events played out, particularly given he'd apparently been highly paranoid for a long time before that even happened.
But the other, bigger part of me is like, "Nah, but f*** that guy," between it being carried out over the course of multiple days showing there had to be at least some level of logical consideration during that time, plus when you consider what an abusive asshole he was to rookies it's not hard to believe he'd carry that attitude over to his home life regardless of whether he was fully cognizant of it.
So yeah. By and large I don't feel sympathy for Benoit, but there is a certain what-if to it in regards to the damage to his brain.

Find anyone who's done horrible things in their life and you'll found countless people they were nice to. Tajiri should have probably read the room before posting that though.

Good people do bad things.
Bad people sometimes do good things.
There are some things, however, that just can't be undone. Needless to say, murder is on that list of things.
I know he was their friend, but he was Nancy and Daniel's husband and father, respectively. Doesn't change a thing. f*** Benoit.

To this day and for all time, the worst thing about the whole tragedy is that we'll never know the entire story. Or if X person could've intervened at X time, maybe the whole thing could've been prevented. To this day, it puts a lump in my throat even thinking about it. How f***ing horrible.

I think the best take was Jericho of all people.
"I miss my friend."
I always took that as "I miss who he was."
Gods know if someone I was close to for years did something like that, that would probably be my reaction.

He knew Benoit, we didn't. Not our place to judge Tajiri on how he remembers his friend.

I can also understand the Jericho point of view. I had a long time friend from childhood. I had known him about 20 years when I found out that he is a serial perpetrator of family violence. I decided to cut off all ties with him. There are times that I miss the kid I knew & I do look fondly back on the great memories we shared but I will never be able to look past the things I saw & the things I learnt about who he is.

He was a sick man in an industry that cares for nobody.
Him eventually losing his mind doesn't erase everything else about it.

He had a long career which saw him travel every corner of the globe and meet thousands of people, all of which seem to agree he was a lovely and well thought of man. To many of those people his memory is entwined with what are probably the most enjoyable and/or significant parts of their careers (and lives in general for that matter). For that alone you can't simply dismiss people who knew him when they share good memories of him, because that's the Benoit they knew. I can't begin to imagine the pain this has caused for the people that knew him the best. To have that hanging over treasured memories it's something they had no control over but in turn, will never stop impacting their lives.
In other words, the Benoit that did what he did, clearly wasn't the Benoit that people who knew him the world over knew and that's something that only they can come to terms with.

Yeah.... whenever I think about Benoit and start to feel sympathy for him due to his destroyed brain, I immediately remember two human beings' lives were cut short because of it. As much as I love the in-ring performer..... he's a scumbag. F*** Benoit.

I wanna say it was Bob Holly who was supposed to connect with Chris either that weekend, or shortly before but it didn't happen for one reason or another, and Holly says it absolutely haunts him to know that there was a chance, however small it may have been, that he could have prevented it by getting together with him

All I can say is: I don't believe anyone's take is wrong. Except the conspiracy theorists. F*** them.
If you have completely renounced the guy? You are right. If you can separate the good from the bad? You are right.

Wrestling is dangerous to any active wrestler's family, it devours them and eats them alive and in Benoit's case it happened literally. What about Bulldog's family? Scott Hall's? Jake Roberts family? They are all alive but certainly not well, their trauma is eternal. Kevin Nash had a great take on how to take care of the family if you are busting your body in the ring while being on different corner of planet Earth every other night. In the end it didn't work out for him either.
I'm glad for new playstation generation that is chill in the locker room, they don't play that stiff crap stuff on others in or outside the ring, no dumb ribs, no paying dues and crap like that. Locker room has been healthier than ever it's been so that's a great progress for wrestling.
