Wrestled a bear, was a white guy in the Nation and a good old boy in the FBI. That's some career. Rest in Peace.

Sad to hear. When WCW was shown randomly on ITV in the early 90s, he and Steve Armstrong seemed to be on each week as the Young Pistols. 58 is no age to go; sleep well, sir.

I was a hardcore WWF kid growing up, so for a long time, I'd only known him for his run as Freddie Joe Floyd and his mini-feud on Superstars with Bradshaw and Uncle Zeb. It wasn't until I discovered WrestleCrap back in 2000 or so that I even found out his real name, let alone that this guy was a great worker. He had randomly popped into my head yesterday or the day before too, crazy how that works. 58 is too damn young. RIP Mr. Smothers.

I only went to one show at the ECW Arena but on that show, my friend and I gave Tracy the flick-off as he tagged out and he stared right at us and gave us a big one right back. One of my favorite live show memories.

We've lost one of the best today. He ain't a "name" but I doubt he'd have had it any different. Just the ultimate wrestler's wrestler. What a man.

Smothers is one of those dudes you would never hear a bad word about from people who worked with him, he was a one of a kind man.
Given the amount of people especially in AEW who worked with him, I would not be shocked if they throw in a post-edit on Commentary wishing condolensces, or even a graphic.

Something of a journeyman, and a guy who never could seem to catch a lasting break in wrestling. One of my favorite stories involving him was if a turnout was bad. Oftentimes, this would be rationalized by the promoter or wrestlers with statements like, "well, the highschool is playing football tonight, so it stands to reason-", "A concert tour just went through", etc, to downplay the failure. Tracy would joke, "McDonalds is open 24 hours a day. How can we compete with that?" He apparently had a lot of good one liners for bad houses: "Lot of people dressed as chairs here tonight." "I will come out there and slap all 42 of you!" and my personal favorite: "Well at least if they riot we'll have them outnumbered"

I've posted this before, but it bares repeating.
Back in 2007, Tracy and Chris Hamrick had an early tag match against a local Pittsburgh team. Hamrick disappeared afterwards. Tracy, however, quietly came back out ten minutes later in his street clothes and sat near the back. Someone my ex and I were with asked why he stuck around. He just smiled and said "supportin' the boys."

One of my favorite live show memories. 100% not trying to hijack the thread here, but was the atmosphere at the ECW arena as cool as it seems on film? Would love to hear details of what it was like. RIP Smothers 🤘 thank you for your time and your art.
