Geoff Ward out in Calgary. His replacement? Darryl Sutter.

Walter Gretzky has died. RIP to Canada’s dad. I broke the news to my dad this morning, he didn’t openly weep but I could tell he was fighting back tears. The only time I’ve seen dad like that is when he came to tell me Grandma (his mum) died

Tom Wilson doing Tom Wilson things. I was watching that live, scary hit. And no f***ing call from the absolutely useless f***ing refs who have worked this Bos/Wash series

Also, TSN is doing a tribute and airing Walter Gretzky’s funeral service today. It’s on as we speak for all those interested

Just announced as official on ESPN. ESPN/ABC get in the seven year deal:
25 regular season games per year
1 conference final series per year
4 Stanley Cup Final series.
A lot of streaming content for ESPN+ and Hulu

This seems to be limited national coverage and no way come playoff time ESPN would bump NBA games off of ABC for them. NBC treated Hockey so well.

I think the Conference Finals they get will be split between ABC and ESPN (and ESPN is a much bigger deal than any of NBCU's networks that aren't NBC proper). I think they also mentioned some regular season games on ABC, too. I didn't catch how much of the playoff series they get, but this is a non-exclusive rights deal. Barring a big coup from CBS or Fox, NBC will get its fair share of hockey games including the playoff series that ESPN/ABC don't broadcast.

I would think NBCSN shutting down had a lot to do with the fact NBC wasn't gonna get exclusivity with these next tv deals.

By the wording of “4 out of 7 years” it sounds like Stanley Cup Finals will be on a network notation. NBC presumably being the bidder for the other 3 years. Very curious to hear what NHL is getting paid for this

Ralph Krueger has been fired by the Buffalo Sabres. A bit funny that on St. Patrick's Day, they drove a snake oil salesman out of Buffalo.

The rangers just bullied the hell out of the flyers tonight. They should be playing the Stelio Kontos theme

Jesus, Elliot Friedman looks like shit.
Bad lighting, no makeup and looks like he’s awake for a week.

Jesus, Elliot Friedman looks like shit. Bad lighting, no makeup and looks like he’s awake for a week. Years ago Elliotte was on the Bob McCown round table on a Friday night and I saw the episode. At the end, they were joking with him about some event he was about to attend and how they tended to get wild. They joked about how he might be in rough shape on tv the next day. On Hockey Night in Canada, his hair wasn't combed, it was all over the place and he could barely speak. It looked like the world's worst hangover. PJ Stock grilled him on the hair and it was hilarious. I've tried to find the clip but can't find it.

Tim Peel got fired for a hot mic picking up him calling a penalty on the Preds just cuz he wanted to. NHL refs have been a shitshow the past couple years. I thought they were actually pretty decent before that. Not only does this confirm what a lot of fans have felt, it further erodes any confidence one may have in the refs as a whole at this point.

Good.
Sad thing is if that happened in baseball, the umpire would get a slap on the wrist and end up working a playoff series.

One of the original St. Louis Blues players and perhaps the most beloved player in franchise history, Bobby Plager was killed in a car accident yesterday. www.kmov.com/news/sources-blues-legend-bobby-plager-dead-in-car-accident-on-interstate-64/article_12d6bd1a-8cd4-11eb-b4f2-2f4048beba25.htmlAs a Blues fan, this is like a punch in the stomach. Bobby Plager had a connection to the Blues and the city of St. Louis that was very unique among other former players and the teams they played for for most of their careers. He was a part of the organization in some capacity as a player, scout, coach and ambassador for the team for 54 years. As somebody who had the privilege of meeting him, he was one of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. I was there the night his number was retired by the Blues and the love he got from the fans was incredible. I felt like he was the heart and soul of the Blues. He was #5 in the program but #1 in the hearts of many Blues fans. His memory will never be forgotten by the fans and the organization. RIP Bobby Plager
