Plager was always around the franchise. At least he got to lift the Cup before he went.

Tim Peel got fired for a hot mic picking up him calling a penalty on the Preds just cuz he wanted to. NHL refs have been a shitshow the past couple years. I thought they were actually pretty decent before that. Not only does this confirm what a lot of fans have felt, it further erodes any confidence one may have in the refs as a whole at this point. I’m fully convinced the Bruins could gun down an opposing player and it would be called a good hockey play. The Bruins and the Leafs both get f***ing absurd treatment from the refs.

Trade deadline approacheth.
I'm kind of stunned at Devils fans who are angry we traded away Palmieri and Zajac for a 1st round pick and a little extra. Both guys are UFA after this season, the rebuild is ongoing, and it's a buyers' market out there, you're not going to be getting a whole lot this year - hell, thinking on the street right now is that barring a surprise big name getting dealt, this may be the only 1st rounder that gets moved this year ahead of the deadline.
Still, stings to see Travis Zajac in any other team's jersey. Can't lie, part of me wants him to come back on a 1-2 year deal next season so he can finish his career here.

Go watch last night's second period where the Caps got 5 straight power plays, including back to back 5 on 3 advantages. Or a few weeks ago when Brandon Carlo was damn near beheaded by Tom Wilson, which wasn't called. The 19 finals when Noel Accari was blatantly tripped, not called, leading directly to a goal less than 10 seconds later. But oh yeah, the Bruins catch all the breaks

Game's not over yet, and it's 7-1 St. Louis over Minnesota.

To WSH: Anthony Mantha
To DET: Richard Panik + Jakub Vrana + 2021 first round pick + 2022 2nd round pick
A massive win for the Red Wings. Yzerman is just as much of a legend in the front office as he was on the ice. I got a feeling Detroit is gonna be scary good once they're done rebuilding. Especially when you consider their history of drafting and developing players. They're going to be a divisional rival to keep a sharp eye on.

Cheeky. Anyway, my Canucks did more than I expected. Hawks took Patient 0 off our hands. Gonna be a rough rest of the season

Yeah, having 2 firsts this year along with Vrana is a big, big win for Stevie Y. Washington was oddly down on Vrana, maybe due to contract negotiations. Not sure why a team in need of young core players would deal a 1st and 2nd for a comparable player. They still have Seider waiting in the wings, but I bet they wish they got Stuetzle instead of Raymond. Raymond is much better defensively, but Detroit badly needs a gamebreaker. I liked the Wallinder pick tho.

An excellent skater in all areas, someone who's outstanding in terms of puckhandling and shooting the puck with precision, on top of being an offensive force at that. I hate that he was drafted by Ottawa, but can't fault them for making that pick. Hard to pass up a player of his talents.

So, new draft lotto rule coming for 2022: if I remember correctly it’ll be that any team outside of then bottom 11 records will only be allowed to jump up 10 spots if they win the lotto, and there’ll be separate drawings for the #1 pick and the #2 pick. #3 pick won’t be part of the lotto anymore.
This is closer to how they did it a few years back (eg I remember the Devils winning the lotto but only getting to rise up to the #4 spot, when they drafted Adam Larsson), and I don’t mind it: sports are entertainment products, and while I don’t like to see teams tank it’s also true that at some point the truly shitty teams need a consistent chance to take the top pick.
...of course, this is only happening AFTER the #%^*ing Rangers got to be in postseason hockey last year AND pick LaFreniere, but still, probably a smart step.
...oh, but for all us cheering some of the lotto teams this year, Seattle is slotted into the #3 spot, barring any changes once the lottos are done. Of course.

Patrick Marleau passed Gordie Howe for most NHL games played with 1,768 games played.

Oof, the Pens allowed 6 goals in the 3rd period against the Devils. Imagine if they had lost this.

Second time this season the Fuel have had issues with the ice. Tonight's game against Orlando was postponed after the first period, and they play again tomorrow.

Carolina is competing for the President's Trophy.
I never in my wildest dreams would thought that would ever happen.
