I'm disappointed in the Leafs protection list for a couple of reasons. 1) Leafs traded Filip Hållander and a pick in order to get Jared McCann, a guy who was looking to be a replacement for either one of Hyman or Kerfoot, and based on his profile, a damn good addition at that. He was someone who actually fit the description of what kind of player the Leafs should more or less be targeting to help round out the depth, and for whatever reason, Dubas has chosen to leave him exposed. What in f***'s name are you thinking? Not only is it bad asset management, but it's a totally unnecessary situation to put yourself in. If Seattle takes McCann, then that makes the trade look really f***ing stupid. 2) The decision of protecting Holl over Dermott. Justin Holl may be a good #4-5 defenseman on on a fine deal, but in the grand scheme of things, he's a guy who can be easily replaced at that price point. Whereas, Dermott on the other hand, has already proven himself to be capable of playing in a top 4 role, and projects to be a better player.
For reference, Holl's numbers vs Dermott's.
So the way things look, either we're losing McCann (which seems to be the most likely scenario), or we're losing Dermott. Either way, it sucks, and it's a situation that could've easily been avoided.

As a Habs fan I'm surprised as hell Carey Price isn't protected but I'm also wondering if Seattle is willing to take on such a massive cap hit.

Habs are in quite the predicament too. Shea Weber's missing the entirety of next season, and his injury is career threatening, so he might be LTIRetired as a result of this. Phillip Danault looks to be hitting free agency, so the Habs are losing another key piece of the lineup.

Predators prospect Luke Prokop announced that he's gay today. He's the first athlete under an NHL contract to come out. So happy for him and hope more athletes feel comfortable coming out in the future.

So that makes it sound like Jake Allen could be the starter next year for them? I wonder how that feeling is goes. Jake is one those goalies that as a starter when he good he great. But when he not he terrible. The issue is he known to have long slumps. And can be hit or miss on with Allen you will see. Blues fans know that to well. When he more a backup role hes great.

Due to the success of Vegas, it seems with Seattle too. It's very easy to build a ready team as an expansion team in the NHL versus the other sports.

Let's see if Seattle succeeds first before declaring the NHL the best place for expansion. Because real talk the Vegas expansion draft is some extreme rewriting of history. Basically everyone wrote the team off after the draft, expected them to be a bottom 5 team in terms of wins who had eyes set on building for future. But since then it's recalled as an easy slam dunk by Vegas, that the NHL gifted them this team by changing the draft rules so teams couldn't protect as many players.

I think it's more that they want to avoid the pitfalls of expansion teams being complete ass right from the gate. If a team sucks for a few years, it runs the risk of the locals rejecting the team and the franchise losing money, which leads to relocation talks. In the NHL, it has been very common to see teams move, but they don't want more Atlanta's.

THEY CAN'T PRONOUNCE THE PLAYER NAMES RIGHT.
THEY CAN'T GET THE ARENA NAME RIGHT.
THEY CAN'T GET THE TEAM NAMES RIGHT.
WHAT A f***ING DISASTER.
Only good thing so far has been the Canes and Panthers taking the piss out of ESPN.

On a positive note, local boy Mason Appleton got picked so we got another Green Bay connection in the NHL.

So, that whole scandal going around with sexual abuse allegations towards the Blackhawks is certainly ugly....
