Mets getting active. They're getting close on a deal with James McCann and may get Springer and/or Bauer next. Seems like the Angles are trying to get in on McCann as well.

White Sox traded Dane Dunning and Avery Weems to Texas for Lance Lynn. One year guaranteed.
Sox sign Adam Eaton for 1-year/$7M.
I honestly don't know how to feel about that last one.

Seems like there isn’t a difference at all? He'll be making the roster/personnel decisions for the team. GM's are roster focused, Presidents of Ops look more at financials and the entirety of the organization, while a Team President basically acts as a stand-in for the owner and oversees everything. The Mets' goal was for Sandy to be the President and to hire a GM and Ops President, but by the sound of it they're going to wait to get an Ops President for a little while since there aren't a ton of interviewable candidates out there right now for various reasons, ergo Sandy will temporarily fill that role while Porter takes over roster construction and moves. Some think that with Porter's background there's a chance that they're setting up Theo Epstein to come in to run the Ops side next season, but I'm not sure about that, the way people in the industry talk about Porter there's a feeling that he could easily work his way up to being Alderson's successor at the top of the organization, so while he and Theo are tight I don't think they'll try to upset that potential continuity they might set up, guess we'll see. Either way, I'm glad that's all settled and that the new GM is someone people around MLB are raving about. Now, time to take Cohen's money and pour it into starting pitching and relievers, but also see about reeling in Springer. I'm feeling good, though; given the strength of the Mets' offense, even if they don't land Springer they could still leave this preseason a pretty heavy favorite to win a playoff spot if they put all available funds into upgrading pitching and defense, e.g. some combination of Tanaka/Sugano/Odorizzi/Kluber/etc. in the rotation (with Syndergaard on the mend post-TJS) and swooping up Hendricks, Hand, and/or a few more of the available relievers...they've got the financial room to go nuts there, so in the event they don't get the big prize they could still be in a great spot.

I want Tanaka back with the Yankees but it don't like that is going to happen Still blame the Yankees for "ruining him" as he came into the league with electric stuff and instead of having TJ, they had him rehab in a failed attempt to make the playoffs in Jeter last season He stopped throwing 95 after that but he still has good stuff but the worry is his elbow is a ticking time bomb tho he's held out for a long time

I wonder what the new name will be. Or will they be like Washington in the NFL and call themselves the Cleveland Baseball Team for now.

14 million people just made the same "CALL THEM CLEVELAND BASEBALL TEAM DUHH-HA!" joke on Twitter Funny thing is that it’s being reported that they’re considering it as a legitimate option. Cant wait to see people that couldn’t give two shits about Cleveland or don’t watch MLB cry about this.

MLB announced that they're recognizing the Negro Leagues as a major league and will work with the Elias Sports Bureau on figuring in those stats into their history.

Did MLB forget it has an offseason
What the hell is happening, they have gone completely dark and getting barely to any traction on news

Did MLB forget it has an offseason What the hell is happening, they have gone completely dark and getting barely to any traction on news It's been like this for a few years now. Basically the players have one number the owners have another and neither is willing to budge so they stare each other down until one caves. It's frustrating. With the NBA and NFL the first day of free agency is an event. Big name players sign right away, big trades happen, you're updating Twitter every other minute getting updates. With baseball it's this boring months long slog.

Agreed, few years have been real slow but this is ridiculous Usually, get some type of movement from the middle guys and a few trades but MLB is damn near literally going full dark like it has ran out of business Even rumors aren't even getting that much talk. Teams are clutching on to their purse strings and everyone is afraid to make that first move. Usually we have at least one player that will change a franchise or approach that $200 mill price range but no one on the list fits that measurement this year, it's weird. I don't even think anyone breaks over $125 mill, so while their a few big names out there, these are pieces to help teams not really lead them sans maybe Bauer but it is real slow

Being reported on Twitter that Phil Niekro passed away last night at the age of 81. That's the seventh hall of famer to pass away this year.
