Padres trade for Blake Snell. If I were him, I wouldn't ever want to play in that jersey again either.

Padres gave up a haul but they potentially got a dominate rotation after this season when Clevinger comes back

Padres may not be done. They are apparently deep in talks with the Cubs about Yu Darvish.

According to sources,Cubs and Padres have agreed to a deal sending RHP Yu Darvish and C Víctor Caratini to SD in exchange for RHP Zach Davies, SS Reginald Preciado, OF Owen Caissie, OF Ismael Mena, and SS Yeison Santana.
gotta hand it to the Cubs, 90% of Chicago cant get Marquee Sports Network to watch the games so may as well put together a team nobody wants to watch so it evens itself out.

Welcome to the world of being World Series favorites, Padres. Now the pressure's on. Let's see how they handle it. Remember, last summer San Diego became everybody's darlings because they flouted the "unwritten rules" of the game, but the moment the Dodgers threw it back at them in the playoffs, they got their backs up and showed that they were no different than the other 29 teams in baseball. I'm very interested to see how San Diego handles being legitimate World Series contenders, when they have to handle facing their opponent's best 162 (or however many in 2021) nights a year.

So now we have Kyle He Hendricks and the poor man’s Kyle Hendricks. The prospect return seems kinda light. Not one of those guys are in the Padres top ten.

So now we have Kyle He Hendricks and the poor man’s Kyle Hendricks. The prospect return seems kinda light. Not one of those guys are in the Padres top ten. I feel this 100% is a "we need to dump a bunch of money!!" move because the Cubs are being run like 2000 WCW...like they decide to piss off their long time broadcasting stations by announcing "we are done with broadcast tv!! we are making our own network!!!" however, they didnt bother to check with carriers if they are interested in carrying this new network and just assumed "its the cubs, they will all carry the network!!" right now only 2 providers in the entire Chicago area carry this network but...Xfinity picked them up a month into the season, and RCA had them from the get go, BUT...when Tom Ricketts said "we promise our loyal fans that Marquee will not cost them anything to watch!!" they turned around after this season wrapped and went "screw this, make it a premium channel where the Xfinity customers have to upgrade to a sports package now to get it. and they struck a deal with Hulu Live a few weeks before the season, and that did really great numbers for them and then when the season was over and they were out of the playoffs Sinclair went "ok, our ratings were great!! so you need to pay us more money or we are off hulu!!!" which hulu went "nobody carries you anyway so buzz off and come back when you have a more logical deal you want" and thus Marquee isnt offered by ANY streaming service either. Marquee having weird clauses in the contracts about No Compete stuff meaning that our broadcasters cant take nation broadcast jobs in weekend games so thats when Len Kasper went "uuuuhhh, nah, im gonna take Joe Bucks place someday so im out" and now we are here...the cubs have a big expensive network to run that is only being carried by 2 providers at the moment that is currently behind a paywall which many customers are going "im not gonna upgrade, ill just catch a game when its on FOX on saturday or ESPN on sunday. and thus 90% of the teams fanbase cannot watch the games. soooo...where to cut money?? getting rid of expensive front office people like Theo was the start, and then Schwarber and now time to tear it down and build the farm up until the network actually can do something and be carried places. I fully expect Bryant to be gone by March.

WS or bust for SD

Bauer also throwing hints at SD. It would be nuts if they added 3 top of the rotation arms (in addition to Lamet and Paddack) and only lose one top 5 prospect on the farm. Still not sure if that puts them up there with the Doyers super team, but we will see...

Not sure I like the Darvish deal for the Friars, but if they're intent on going for it 2021-2022 then I can't really fault them. To their credit, I don't think they traded any of their top 10 prospects in these deals, that's how deep their system is.
Granted, they tried this going into 2015 and it failed spectacularly, but the 2020 Padres looked pretty legitimate in a small sample size and they do have to focus on taking down a powerhouse in LA, so I can't really fault them. I also like the deal they got on that shortstop from Korea, Kim; guy's apparently got a very good glove and a bat with some legitimate potential to translate over pretty well, and they've got him for around $7-$8 million a year, good stuff.

Masahiro Tanaka said if the Yankees don't bring him back he will go back to Japan
I hope the Yankees bring him back. Yes, that elbow is a ticking time bomb but he just only turned 32 and I think he still has 2 years of good left in him

I'm fully anticipating the Cubs to keep on tearing down to build it back up whenever the fanbase gets sick of losing. This is a salary dump since they got their pound of flesh from the WS title and fielding competitive teams the past few years. They'll cry poor when the Ricketts are beyond loaded. I have no doubts that they'll dump Bryant at some point between now and the trade deadline, but so help me God, if they dump or don't make a real effort to resign Rizzo. He is the straw that stirs the drink on that team.
