That's the Catch 22 You are going to get a potential new city and brand new stadium but if same ownership is still acting like they broke than it defeats the purpose. See Miami Marlins for how city of Miami got shafted Same with the Raiders going to Vegas. If your team suffers from "brokeass owners", then a larger market isn't necessarily going to save you. How about it be on the Major League owners to have the ability to be financially viable as a stand-alone. It would be one thing if they were spending and could point to the fanbase as not supporting, but that damn sure isn't the case. It's basically a form of corporate welfare. We need cities to foot the bill on a big, money-making stadium because we're but mere millionaire owners coming to the league with hat in hand. It's not at all in good faith, but the owners will approve bc they know the brokeass owners won't work in Oakland and they just pray they can piggyback off a bigger market. I still say the MLB floor should be at least $75 mill. If Manfred had balls he'd say we still not dealing with a cap but we can't have a situation where one player in MLB makes more than damn near an entire team. Trevor Bauer salary is more than the Pirates salary combined sans Gregory Polanco Every MLB team can afford it and they are f***ing liars if they can't. I just don't see another city getting hoodwinked like Miami did tho. They still feeling the effects of that

Send the A’s to Sacramento, we’ll support losers who can’t / won’t keep their players. 😂

They still feeling the effects of that Miami's stadium wasn't really impressive, other than the gigantic cost and the abomination of a home run statue. I'm sure city officials think they got "find the Queen"ed by the owners. Hustled, took the money, and ran. I damn sure wouldn't believe a cheapskate owner after that shit. Sending off all their high end players for mostly just the cost of taking the contracts, and also Lewis Brinson who bombed.

As an A's fan, I am now officially shitting myself over the prospect of losing my team.
The A's have done all they can to show that their stadium proposal is viable, and will only have minimal disruption to the adjacent port. Unfortunately, I don't trust the Oakland City Council. I have a feeling a good number of them are in the pockets of the unions who are opposing the stadium. The mayor is on board, but a lot of the others are a toss-up.

Status of tonight's Rays-Yankees game is unknown as five Yankees coaches tested positive for COVID, according to ESPN's Marly Rivera. Scary thing is all five coaches were apparently vaccinated. That said they are all asymptomatic as of now. Hopefully, this means they were just false positives or they didn't get both sets of vaccines yet. Though this is also going to give fuel to the anti-vax crowd.
EDIT: Yankees have confirmed third base coach Phil Nevin has tested positive and he was fully vaccinated. Nothing about the other four yet.

The vaccine doesn't stop you from getting the virus though, or even from having symptoms. It's to protect against the severe cases, and slow transmission. With less than half the pop vaccinated, I'm actually surprised that more pro players haven't tested positive.

Yeah, there's going to be outliers, as even the most effective vaccine still has a 5% chance of getting it. But if ESPN's reporting is accurate and five people got it and they're all vaccinated? That's a little scary. Hopefully they got the J&J shot which has a much lower protection against the virus in general (but is still near 100% effective against serious illness and death). But the anti-vax crowd doesn't need much to go off about using this as "proof" that they don't work and it's just an excuse for Bill Gates to make us into the Borg Collective.

There aren't enough terrible adjectives in the English language to attach to his name. He was the spitting image of every single damn thing wrong with MLB management/ownership, managed to kill one franchise and nearly destroy another before he was done. I really don't want to see the A's move, teams with such storied championship histories should be able to stay put, but the whole game of teams telling cities "pay up or else!" is so freaking tiring. Of all 30 teams only Atlanta's books are available to the public, since they're owned by a public entity, but if they want to cry poverty all the damn time then they should open the damn financials and let the cities (and the players association) see them. Wouldn't shock me if pre-pandemic a whole bunch of these owners were using their teams as ATMs.

The MLBPA aren't much smarter (though a lot more indignant) than the NFLPA. The MLB owners though are a greasy group even by NA pro sports owners standards.

The issue is where they want to build it, the longshoreman's union is raising hell and using scare tactics that if it's approved, industrial use will be slashed and they would all lose their jobs. And like much of California, the City Council is very pro-labor, so it's going to be very close as to whether it gets approved. This has happened any time with the A's: as soon as they get any momentum, some environmental organization, labor union or NIMBY community group comes out of the woodwork and grinds it to a halt.

Even though he didn’t end his time on a high note, I’m glad Matt Harvey got a nice ovation from the crowd at Citi Field today. He’s had a tough go of it since the 2015 season.

Cole was one man wrecking crew tonight. If only the Yankees could score more runs for him, did they hire Chilli Davis, he knows how to teach hitters to do squat for your superstar ace pitcher.
Only a matter of time till the Yankees have at least a share of first place.

The Yankees finally win a series in Depression Field.
Looks like there are up to 7 confirmed cases of COVID in the Yankees locker room despite mostly everyone being fully vaccinated. Good news is that everyone but one is asymptomatic and it seems like the one person experiencing symptoms has it mild.

Send the A’s to Sacramento, we’ll support losers who can’t / won’t keep their players. 😂 Maybe then they'll finally do something with that 30 year old concrete slab.

They got a plan for that too, making it an amphitheater. The A’s have a great vision for the new stadium and the Coliseum site, but again, there are certain elements in the community and in local politics who don’t want us to have nice things.
