It shouldn't get that bad if MLB wants to last They can't afford another year of "no money" from a business and fan perspective

Manfred is a con man and a liar I read his statement and boy did he try to throw the players under the bus. God forbid they’re tired of teams manipulating when players come up to the majors to keep them under lock cheaper longer.

Just the last couple of years have seen stuff like revenue going up while the average salary has gone down, the battle about contracts for the COVID season, the "punishment" the Astros got, and MLB using 2 different balls. And that's just off the top of my head. This is not gonna be pretty, and won't be resolved quickly.

It really is amazing how MLB seem hell bent on making fans as annoyed as possible. Rob manfred may be the worst commissioner of the four major North American sports and that’s saying something. Did they learn nothing from the mess around the season before last ? The phrase if you fail to learn from history, you are destined to repeat it comes to mind.

Let's go over some of the Red Sox' moves before baseball entered lockout season.
They spent a combined $22 million to sign Michael Wacha, James Paxton, and Rich Hill, who combined to go 11-13 with a 5.18 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in their last full seasons in the bigs (Paxton only had one start in 2021, then missed the remainder of the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery). Instead of spending $22 million on one borderline ace (Marcus Stroman's contract with the Cubs is for just over $23 million annually) or splitting it among two above-average starters (Steven Matz got $11 million per from the Cardinals and Jon Gray got $14 million per from Texas), the Red Sox' solution is to split it among three subpar pitchers whose combined 2021 WAR is about equal to one Eduardo Rodriguez, who they let walk to Detroit without so much as a conversation.
They traded Hunter Renfroe, coming off a career year (.259/.315/.501, 31 HR, 96 RBI). I get the idea of selling high, because history tells us Renfroe likely won't repeat the season he just had (his previous career high BA was .248 back in 2018, and he's never come close to the 89 runs or 33 doubles he recorded in 2021. But the best they could get for him was Jackie Bradley Jr. and a pair of prospects? Bradley Jr., while a star defensively, can't make up for it at the plate. Bradley is coming off a season in which he hit .163 over 428 plate appearances, a full 35 points lower than the lowest qualifying batting average in the bigs in 2021.

I think ultimately they will agree to 3 things
Expanded playoffs Universal DH And the players will probably get a win as far arbitration is concerned
I think no matter how you slice it with service time, owners will just keep delaying players to delay paydays

I don't think we end up missing any regular season games, and if we do, it'll be a very minimal amount. I think this lockout gets resolved sometime after the New Year, and, worst-case scenario, there's a shortened Spring Training to get in a full 162-game season. That, or they cut a handful of games at the start of the season and we end up with something like 150 or 144 games in 2022.
But I'm not expecting some cutthroat, prolonged lockout that will extend well into 2022 and threaten the World Series or anything close to that. The negotiation terms aren't nearly as severe or disparate as they were in 1994, and I don't think the two sides or their respective leaderships are nearly as dug in as they were 27 years ago. Plus, both sides have to be aware that baseball is not in the position of strength it was in the mid-1990s, so losing even a handful of games could be a crushing blow to the sport, one from which it would never recover.

The Braves were the first World Series champions after the 1994-95 Strike/Lockout.
26 years later, they are the last World Series champions prior to the latest lockout.
