Magneto in X-Men: Children Of The Atom on Saturn.
Amazing game but I probably did that fight 15-20 times trying different characters before I finally lucked out and beat him.

Heihachi in the first Tekken, for me. Granted I've been able to beat him and unlock every character in later years, but damn in those days he drove me insane with the constant blocking and those damn uppercuts. Like, just let me beat you already old man.

Mike Tyson in Mike Tyson's Punch-Out. Came here to say this. I also always hated Death Bringer in Golden Axe for Mega Drive.

Shiva from Streets of Rage 2. I know I had beaten him before, but not without losing lives or even getting a continue. It's bad enough when he would grab you and them slam you, or worse, the Final Crash.

Heat Man was easy once you got his pattern down. But that damn stage to get to him! >_> that's why I always did him last... or at the very least after I got the jet...

Back around 1990, there was a PC game called Quest For Camelot where you did the whole King Arthur thing. At one point you have to joust against the Black Knight. It took my friend and me a solid week to get past this guy and we truly believe that it wasn’t so much what we did as a random number generator in the game coming up in our favor. After we got past him we agreed to never try that again.

To joust, you had to hold your lance one way and your shield another way and if your way was better then the knight’s then you would unhorse him. Win three out of five tilts and you win the tournament. But the fight was random and the knight always won.

Culex in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. Yes, there are ways to cheese the battle (Lazy Shell/Star Egg) but when you're 10 years old that battle is hard as hell.

If he counts as a boss... I played VS Duck Hunt in the arcade long before the NES hit. And in the arcade version you could shoot the dog.

Those two palette swaps of Blaze in Streets of Rage that keep flipping around so you barely get a hit on them.

Those two palette swaps of Blaze in Streets of Rage that keep flipping around so you barely get a hit on them. Easy way to beat them. Turn your back to them and use your back attack move when they got close.

The boss of 4-2 in Battletoads & Double Dragon for the original Game Boy - which was the space ship you were going through in the first three levels. You're trying to destroy the ship before it reaches Earth, which involves destroying its various weaponry through sustained gunfire (or missiles, which require specific aiming of a cursor while trying to avoid being hit, and you can't shoot while doing it). The final phase launches its own heat seeking missiles that instantly destroy the ship you're fighting in, which are obnoxious to dodge, and it spends parts of the previous phases dropping mines that can also instagib you.
And also I was bad at it.
I think I beat it one time, and then immediately wiped out on the next level because I was just that low on lives and had never made it there before.
