Gargano is channeling Kurt Angle beautifully. The oblivious goof heel who can use comedy without just becoming a comedy act. Everyone in that 8 person tag got over which isn’t easy. Gargano can pretty much do whatever they ask of him. I loved him as a babyface & this heel character is perfect for him. Such a far cry from his failed first heel run. I was nervous when he turned (again) but he’s killed this one.

Alvarez put up a video talking about how much the match sucked, comparing the Way to Jar Jar, and talking about how he's sure this chased away anyone new trying out NXT. That's... certainly a take.

To be fair - I think his main issue is the placement of the Way. He doesn't mind the comedy. He for one doesn't think it should have been the main event on their first unopposed show and he also doesn't think it makes sense for Gargano to be a cowardly comedic heel on most shows and then be super serious Johnny Takeover who takes on all comers when a Takeover comes around. He'd prefer someone like Kushida or Pete Dunne have the NXT North American title as opposed to Johnny if he's going to be this way as champion. You can still disagree with that but I get where he's coming from.

Leading into Stand and Deliver he was complaining how unfair it was he had to prep for multiple opponents. The angle leading into Vengeance Day was literally all about him trying to duck out of the match with KUSHIDA. Then there was his Wheel of Challengers which was rigged to land on Ruff for what was meant to be an easy win. Gargano is a great wrestler and just because he's become an obnoxious, deluded jerk, it doesn't mean he's lost all his ability to be Johnny Takeover. But because of the old Gargano Curse and his many MANY high profile losses, you can see why he'd rather skip the match part altogether.

Angle was at his best being a dopey comedic character and having kick a$$ main event-level matches in the ring. Sometimes, I think Alvarez wants to be contrarian for clicks. NOTE: I'm not trying to say Gargano is on Angle's level. But they can be packaged similarly.

Yeah, if he's saying Gargano becomes super serious at Takeovers then that's a very strange take because that isn't the case at all. Although I'm not even convinced Alvarez properly watches NXT before reviewing it ever since that episode last year when he went on a rant about how he likes Mauro Ranallo but listening to him for 30 minutes during that Gargano/Ciampa match was just too much. There was one problem though. Mauro didn't call that match!

I dont think anything Alvarez said was really unfair about The Way. His biggest point was he didn't think a match with so much comedy should be the main event.
Of course, I'll openly admit that I also don't find the way entertaining at all so my opinion is a bit jaded

Jut piping in to say I've always been a supporter of heel NXT Johnny and it delights me to see it finally positively received in a big way.

Ember & Shotzi looking so disgusted that Dexter sent them flowers...he teamed with you 2 weeks ago! Come on!
Poor Indi. Hopefully Candice & Johnny’s betrayal doesn’t lead to her leaving The Way.

WWE put in a trademark request for In-Dex.
I think we're getting lots more of this insanity and I am here for it!
