I saw Rocky Balboa in theaters and also experienced this too, especially since the film shot most of the final fight like it was a Pay Per View event even using the authentic HBO Boxing broadcast presentation to really sell the effect. (The fight scenes were shot before a Floyd Mayweather bout.) 'Balboa' should have been terrible on paper, but that movie was light years better than it had any right to be. Very much so. And I know people reference his monologue to his son a lot but man, that hit me harder than it had any right to be. Also, I’ll admit it, having seen Balboa, I cried way more than I expected to for the end of Creed 2.

For me, Rocky breaking down in the meat plant about his retirement, his grief over Adrian and "the beast" gnawing at him was heavy as hell and really took me off guard.

Watched this so many times on HBO with my girl friends. The first time, we were crying so hard when Apollo died, my mom came from the other room to check on us.
I still cry every time.
Adrian pisses me off when she says "You can't win!"
Best montages in movie history-driving and training.

I appreciate the movie for going balls out with the montages.

I appreciate the movie for going balls out with the montages. Listening to a podcast about Rocky IV recently, they did research and they found out that the movie is 31.9% montage. A third of the movie's runtime is nothing but montages.

A third of the movie's runtime is nothing but montages. At one point there were two montages back-to-back. It was impressive.

A third of the movie's runtime is nothing but montages. And many would say that makes it at least an 80% movie than Rocky V. Not a full 100% because the "'Cause Mickey Loves Ya" scene as well as "Sue Me For What?" are fun.

I like a lot of the ideas in Rocky V, but the execution was what let it down. The way Rocky lost his millions was too contrived, and he was such a popular star that a couple of TV appearances and an autobiography would've put him back on a decent income. That being said I liked the grounded approach after years of excess, and for a non-actor Tommy Morrison was pretty good as Gunn (or at least better then Tarver)

I cannot get past the idea that the Balboas would trust any kind of financial responsibility to Paulie, considering his past as an alcoholic and well, kinda being a jackass. Like, Rocky I kinda can see wanting to give him the benefit of the doubt, but Adrian? Not a chance.

To anybody whom has never watched a Rocky movie at the theater, it is like you're at a real boxing fight. Guys get caught up in the action, scream and yell and throw stuff. One of the most surreal things you could ever imagine. So Eddie Murphy's standup about Italians just coming from Rocky wasn't an exaggeration?

Rocky losing ALL his money was just dumb. As a kid I didnt understand WTF they were talking about so I just assumed they meant Paulie gambled in Drago.

Werent there some real-life boxers around that time who were once big stars but now were flat broke? Maybe the movie was doing a commentary on that situation.
