I like that lately this season, and some of the last one, they’ve been focusing on the side characters more
This week was Principal skinner Last week was comic book guy Mr burns in the premiere There was an episode last year that had an interesting thing with the sea captain for the first third until they dropped it for the Simpson family I thought the two part episode with reverend love joy was good
This show has a rich history of side characters, it could refreshing to focus on them more often

I always thought they should have started to do that ages ago. Such a wealth of characters and yet they're tied to the main 5 family members.

It took twenty years for the show to gain a small percentage of it's groove back. That is incredibly sad.

True, but there's only so much you can do with a cast of 5. Maybe something drastic like renaming the show springfield and more emphasis on the other characters would give the show a new lease of life? Or probably be the worst jumping of the shark ever... On the other hand, there's The TV show Taggart...

If you have 5 main characters for a tv show and then run out of ideas for them, maybe the shows just been on way too long or produced too many episodes. 5 main characters is probably about what most shows have actually.

I gotta say, I like the direction they took with Chief Wiggum’s wife.
I totally didn’t notice how little she was used that there was not much to contradict of flanderize. Also, included Lindsay Naegle in the backstory.
Also, reading the simpsons wiki about her, it’s actually fairly consistent to past continuity of the few times she was used.
Weird they made Gil’s backstory of a coke dealer. Kind of makes like present day bumbling a lot less sympathetic
I don’t know if it’s in character or not for Maude to be so greatly annoyed by and aggressive to Homer

End the show now and make a spin off of those people. They can’t do this dance forever.

Goes to show you that the Simpsons family were such major backstage politicians. Holding down the rest of the other characters for years.

I was gonna say something about the Simpsons finding their groove "lately" and how this is something probably said every dozen years or at least over long stretches of time...... sure enough the original post wasn't even from this weekend but rather from the end of last year. ;p

It took twenty years for the show to gain a small percentage of it's groove back. That is incredibly sad. They've had stretches of being very good every few years. The season after the movie came out was their best since the glory days by far (because all of the good writers were spending their time and effort on the movie).

Lisa and Bart strutted out to Voodoo Child every week in black t-shirts and shades on set with multiple guest stars like Mark McGwire and Paul McCartney and hogged the spotlight, while Ralph’s pushes wee constantly derailed despite him being over with the crowd.

Does Homer even take bumps anymore? Nothing could really top the big Springfield Gorge bump that would make Shane McMahon say “holy f***ing shit”.
