I gotta say, I think the insults were about incest, not homophobia. If this were aimed at Best Friends or FTR, yeah, no question it's homophobia. But the fact that it is even questionable whether or not it was means Caster shouldn't have done it. This is it for me. Whatever it was, it was questionable as f***.

As a gay person, I think it really does look like the cover of a self published romance novel and I'm not sure it's homophobic to point it out... Depending on how it's done, of course. Like this, done on the cheap in photoshop by someone's nephew. It's kind of odd as the graphic design work those in the orbit of the Bucks have had done is usually pretty good. At first glance I thought this was a picture of Taker. Someone needs to paint his hair black and make his eyes white.

I just googled the book cover and immediately burst out laughing so that's where I'm at Not getting a good look at the cover for context didn't help. Anyway Aew has a habit of weird sexual promos, this incest one, Cody not being giant, Mox saying MJF was a virgin, Jake talking about squirrel nuts, Eddie wanting to date Starks or something. Strangely mostly from those who are usually the best on the mic, instead sounding like a worse version of dirtsheet Miz.

His raps on Dark have been much goofier and more light-hearted. This one was bad.

I dont care how great he's been, he can stick the gay jokes, unironically, up his damn ass.
It's isn't funny. It isn't acceptable.
We have threads of people calling out guys for tweeting this sort of shit and demanding blood, but because it's on TV, it's ok?

I’ve enjoyed what I’ve seen of the Acclaimed in ring, but I don’t think I’m a fan of the gimmick. Caster is talented, to be certain, but the whole aesthetic and the beat he raps to on the way to the ring gives me a real PN News vibe. Couple that with the incest joke (I don’t think it was intended as a gay joke, as much as a “you guys are brothers, wtf,” especially since Bowens is openly gay) that really missed the mark, and they’ve got a long way to go for me. I much prefer Top Flight and even TNT of the new crop of young teams that have come through AEW lately.

Acting like Caster went on Twitter and had a legit homophobic rant is just straight up ridiculous as this point. They were knocking how two brothers on a book cover looked sexully suggestive, that's incest, and it was a kayfabe storyline between four characters. If the joke sucked sure, it missed the mark but the lenghs some people have taken it in this thread is just mind boggling.

What pains me is The Acclaimed have been so great on DARK, both with Caster's rapping, and their in ring ability. These guys never tug before AEW, and it's amazing to me how far they've come in such a short time.
And for this to be their first impression to people, who proceed to have this reaction about it, is depressing, because they're better than this, and I hope they can prove it and they aren't just written off because the segment didn't stick the landing.

I wasn't keen on it, but it's two guys that looked like they were nude and looking down at each other's crotches. In the context of wrestling or knowing who they are, that's nothing, but like the joke about putting it in the romance section on BTE, if you did not know, you'd be forgiven for thinking it was like a Chuck Tingle cover. That and Bowens himself being gay isn't a get out of jail free card, and I still would have preferred they joked about just about anything else, like have Max Caster joke about how Matt keeps on getting hurt, take shots at them being old and busted next to the new hotness, etc. I dont care how great he's been, he can stick the gay jokes, unironically, up his damn ass. It's isn't funny. It isn't acceptable. We have threads of people calling out guys for tweeting this sort of shit and demanding blood, but because it's on TV, it's ok? Do you think that a fictional character doing something on a TV show is the same thing as tweeting it off the clock? I mean, that's exactly what it sounds like you are saying. I really hope that isn't it, though, because that's a really weak argument.

It didnt land, and it worries me ANYONE thought it was a good idea, or that after the fact we are just meant to laugh it off. You missed my point - if we call out the real life 'jokes' people make for this stuff, you damn well better be calling out the scripted ones, else the message you send is that it is ok. It wasn't when Cena and Rock were doing fruity pebbles, and it isnt here either.

It wasn't when Cena and Rock were doing fruity pebbles, and it isnt here either. But the message IS that it isn't ok. It wasn't supposed to be laughed off. The Acclaimed are immature heels who are being set up to take a fall by The Bucks or possibly Top Flight. Like you're acting like everyone was just ok with them mocking the Bucks but but the story here is they were pointing out how goofy the book cover was, where the grand scheme means was to distract the Bucks and for Hybrid 2 to attack them from behind. Sorry but the Book Cover does look silly, The Bucks literally did it to take the piss out of themseles,s and they were the only ones being mocked in the promo for it. In the end if this were some off the cuff thing that wasn't approved, then it'd be an issue. If Caster or Bowens said it isn't cool to be gay, then this would be a different issue entirely. None of that is what happened here. In context to the promo and overall, their entire shtick was aimed at The Bucks, and only The Bucks, for means of distracting The Bucks for Hybrid 2, to attack them. It'd be quite awkward for Anthony Bowens to be homophobic when he himself is gay. Whole thing was just to get the Bucks up and make fun of them. I just feel like at this point a lot is being made about what in the grand scheme was not even a minute of television time.

What is next, holding an actor "responsible" for things a villainous character they portray does or says because that is really no not much different? And this type of thing is why I have a huge problem with the whole idea of "Cancel Culture" because people often make a mountain out of a molehill and take the focus off the truly toxic.

Got to be honest I thought him being bad was on purpose, as I assumed there was no way anyone thought that was good, and they are heels so yeah.
Also until this thread I have to be honest and say I hadn't even thought it was homophobic at all, it was all mocking two brothers. If they were a gay couple and they were like "ewww you look at each others junk" then fine, but they were mocking two brothers for being creepy with each other, you know, as to get under their skin like bad guys might
If they were a brother/sister tag team they could have said the same stuff

Having watched these guys on Dark, Acclaimed are very likely going to end up being a hit on Dynamite. They're very, very good.
...And yeah, the cover of the Bucks' book absolutely does look like they're looking at their crotches. Hardy even joked about it with "Mine's bigger" in a BTE bit.
I certainly won't tell anyone who's LGBT+ how to feel about what they heard, but my cis/het reaction was "this guy's a young punk heel who you want to see the babyfaces make shut up"; I've usually been of the mind that as long as the heel doing something offensive isn't portrayed as being in the right, and as long as it's clear they deserve comeuppance for their wrongs, then it gets leeway from me. But, again, that's my own view, so I'm not about to speak for others.

I saw it, I wasn't offended. It was worse than what they've been busting out on Dark, but itcwas what it was. It was a clumsy in character comment about a horribly designed book cover, I'm not going to treat it as the same as AJ, Brock, Jay Briscoe and others where their hate was clear as day, no keyfabe, no blurred lines, no context that can explain or defend, hell, it's not even the same as cena continually making gay insults as a face.

If nothing else, a recurring thing with their matches on Dark is that Taz and Excalibur give them a lot of credit, but even Taz has said they're playing with fire, that they're going to fire up the wrong opponents and cost themselves a match with it, even if it's worked out in their favor so far. Off topic, loved how Bowens is just so aggressive out there. They did a spot near the end of their match against one team, I think the Alex Chamberlain one, where Bowens just glared at one of the members at the end of the match, and they just walked out on their partner and let Acclaimed hit their finish. Could have just taken a swing at them or something, but that really sold Bowens as someone to keep an eye on if he can put that fear in a guy to not chance it.

Here was their entrance on DARK. A better example of what they bring to the table:
