Here was their entrance on DARK. A better example of what they bring to the table: As I said, I hate that peoples first impression of Caster on Dynamite was that rap because people got the entirely wrong impression of how good this team is and how good Caster is on the mic That was probably the best free style he's hit so far.

Yep, knew this thread would get bumped, lol.
They had a great rap vs SCU, and a good match. I don't know what it is with the Bucks raps, and I don't know whose fault it is, whether it's The Acclaim trying to get heat or The Bucks thinking this kind of stuff is gonna get heat for The Acclaimed and want fans to see them get their asses kicked, but it's missing the mark.
Considering everything else about The Acclaimed has been good, it sucks that their two flops have been trying to rap on The Bucks on TV, I guess the sooner they're away from them the better. I just hope the match is good, and it should be frankly.

The intention seems to be to evoke a “90s bully” aesthetic from them, complete with the regressive, sexist, ageist, and everyphobic jokes and insults. I think Caster’s entertaining on the mic, and has ability, but I think this schtick is starting to cross a line into territory AEW doesn’t want to be in, so I’m hoping they really dial it back, because The Acclaimed are a fun and unique part of the show that I really like otherwise.

They just need to stick to burns like this and they'll be fine. Shit like this is great and there's no need to push the envelope.

You really nailed the issue. They're being hateable in a way that makes the show less fun, and AEW is usually pretty good about not crossing that line with their heels.

What makes this odder, is Caster and Bowens don't cross this line with anyone else but The Bucks, which makes me wonder if it's The Bucks pushing for the disses to lean into this territory. Cause like literally every other diss has been ok to great and has sold the team so well. It's specifically The Bucks, which makes me think there's some input being thrown in here that is not hitting the mark, and if it IS The Bucks inputting it, I hate to see The Acclaim be the fall guys for it.

I wonder if the issue's that they feel the need to go over-the-top heelish to position themselves as that compared to the Bucks seeing as the Bucks are a couple of super unlikable jackasses to begin with. Neither side of this conflict is really the good one.

Still love these dudes and they impressed me tonight. AEW has been slowly building up young stars so seeing them beat SCU right out the gate was awesome (and hopefully this starts the breakup for those two since they need something fresh).

Pretty much how I'm feeling right now. Yeah, they're heels, but it's not a fun kind of heat and not something the company needs. They're definitely talented, just really hoping they nudge them in a different character direction than they're currently headed.

So, the only thing I've seen of these guys is the raps on Dark that have been posted, which were all pretty good? But if they're crossing the line into offensive and being unenjoyable on the main show, that sucks. I like to make some leeway for heels to be able to do bad things, but "they're heels so its ok" isn't an infinite defense.

It's only against The Bucks, that's the strange part.

Neither side of this conflict is really the good one. I kind of get the feeling that the Bucks told them to do it. I am as big of a Bucks fan and apologist as you will find, but I can admit their humor is sophomoric sometimes. And the whole book cover being in the romance section at Barnes and Noble joke was made on BTE before The Acclaimed made essentially the same joke on Dynamite. It’s one of those things where The Acclaimed are heels with an old school rap gimmick. The 1992 LL Cool J style insults make sense...but also they’re VERY antiquated and uncomfortable. I trust AEW to pick up on this feedback and refine the gimmick a bit, because the raw material is there for them to be really good. And Caster definitely is one of the most talented rapping wrestlers there’s ever been, in terms of delivery.

I'm always curious about the era of rap that those in wrestling go with. You can tell the era and style based on the beat, flow, delivery and lyrics. In this case it actually got a chuckle outta me by being as bad as it is. I don't hate em, I think "eh, lower card heel I guess" but the rapping is actually a lil funny.

Y'know...it would actually make sense if the issue is that Max Caster is asking his opponents what insults they're OK with. It's a gimmick that has the potential to bury people or legitimately hurt feelings, so it would behoove him to go that route.

You know, I’m honestly conflicted on that point. He’s clearly doing like a bad late-80s early-90s mainstream rap thing, which is inherently corny and lame, but I think he’s actually kind of talented. I certainly prefer him to Cena and R-Truth, much less the PN Newses of the world.

It reminds me too much of that late 00s-early 10s battle rap style of rapping with a beat behind it if you know what I mean. Like, any Grindtime battle rap video had at least one guy rapping that style. I think in a year he'd be better but we'll see.

That’s true...I’ve gotten more of like a Vanilla Ice, Sir Mix-A-Lot or DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince vibe from him with the beat they use and his cadence. But, done as a freestyle diss you’re totally right it’s like Grindtime. Either way, to your point, it’s so goofy I kind of enjoy it.

I said it on the Dynamite thread, but the rapping on Dynamite reminds me a lot of when John Cena first got his Doctor of Thuganomics persona over as a heel. It worked in 2003-2004, but some of the racier aspects of them don't seem like they translate as well in 2020.
