Only got to play half an hour or so on my lunch break but as soon as "Beneath the Mask" started playing I got the biggest grin on my face. This really does feel like a proper Persona 5 sequel and I, frankly, am here for it. Man, wait until the first time “Life will Change” plays...

Played a little before going to bed. Probably because COVID but does the voice-acting feel a little weird to anyone else? In particular Morgana sounds like he's whispering and Makoto seems oddly high-pitched.

I will say there are a few cases so far of the pitches and volume of some takes being higher and lower than they should be and I can imagine that is because some stuff was able to be recorded in a studio and others had to be done at home. All depending on where VOs are based, obviously.

Also, I bought the BGM set so I’ll definitely be having P3’s Mass Destruction and Wiping All Out play as much as possible.

I was meaning to watch that so thanks for the clarification.

The VO stuff sort of gets me "nostalgic" for the first few days of Royal's release when the sound mixing was just really weird and everyone felt quiet compared to sound effects.
They eventually fixed it and you hardly notice it now but that's what it made me think of.

I wish they’d use the lyrical main theme from Persona 2: Innocent Sin as a BGM instead of just the instrumental tracks.

So I just finished the first stage, Shibuya, and I have thoughts. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}First off, has to be said again, Koei Tecmo did a fantastic job at replicating the atmosphere of Persona 5. I don't know whether they were given assets to use in a separate engine but they seemed to have people on staff who knew the beats and what the fans want. The way the characters move and act, the way sound effects are used, the right music queues (and the tracks made for the game are pretty great, too), it doesn't quite get it but it also gets it in a different way. They seem to be really good at putting characters into Dynasty Warrior style games without it feeling like a cash grab.
The story itself, I have to say, it's not been bad so far. It sets up why the Metaverse is a thing again and the reasons for the levels as they are, Desires instead of Hearts, Jails instead of Palace etc. Sophia is, actually, a really great addition, too. I was worried she was going to be less interesting because she's an AI but it feels like she's trying to adapt to the world and the moment where she tries to think logically about what to do with people who are doing bad in the metaverse feels like a jab at the amount of times the Phantom Thieves would argue about the morality of their actions every 5 minutes. She also has a badass jumper and I want it. Zenkichi seems like a dude who will fit in when he eventually does (and, like, come on, he's in the intro, he's blatantly going to reveal he knew about the Metaverse or something) and him and Haru have some fun moments together.
In terms of gameplay, I'm enjoying it. I have to adjust to some things (the action button is circle instead of triangle for example. It's really minor but it's still kind of weird) but I'm a sucker for hack n' smash so I'm happy hacking enemies to bits. It also surprisingly adapts some of the mechanics of Persona 5 into its combat system like the Baton Pass from Royal and being able to hit Persona attacks on the fly. It feels like there's potential for some sweet combos.
Also, have to mention, the opening battle has a scene where everyone gets their time to shine and it's so damn cool. It's been almost a year since I played Royal but it feels like a longer time, I missed these goobers.
EDIT: Zenkichi just found out about the Metaverse and it makes the game worth the price of admission alone. It's hilarious.

I started the game on Friday.
My save file so far is at least 20 hours long.
I might have a problem.

This game also somehow ups the Sly Cooper-ness of P5 even more and it's GLORIOUS

About the ferris wheel scene. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} Sucks that Ann’s the only Phantom Thief girl that Joker doesn’t get to have a one on one scene with on the ferris wheel. They just had to throw Morgana in there for those of us who romanced Ann.

I don't know if it's just the Switch version but this audio situation is ROUGH. Reminds me of doing Skype calls with my friend who insisted on having loud music playing back in the day.

Only really dabbled with it so far - been awkward juggling it with replaying Royal - but two main thoughts thus far from playing the Switch version.
1. Damn do I want a Switch port of Royal.
2. Damn do I want a proper Persona 5-2. This nails the feeling of a follow-up and is very satisfying in that respect, but I want one with the same mechanics. Really the more of this cast the better though.

I can’t tell you if it is the Switch version but the audio does get better as the game goes on. Not as quickly as it should but it does seem to level out at some point.

This might be my favorite track in the game.

Yeah, voice recording for anything produced in 2020 and likely most of 2021 is going to sound rough when they're recording in home studios compared to dedicated studios. Not just in equipment quality and better acoustics, but also in-person direction. A number of cartoons and video games have had similar problems.

Yeah essentially any media infrastructure that wasn't doing a lot of dedicated long distance recording (ie Big Finish Productions in Britain) is likely gonna have a bit of a drop in quality for audio done in the past year. An interesting Atlus game paying the price for its localization taking so and not being done before the initial release.
