Why not, It worked out so great with the McBrats in WWE Well, because he always said he wouldn’t, for one. But you’ll notice in this video it’s edited because he flubbed his lines, he sounds like a complete nerd and could never get heat like Stephanie or take a bump like Shane. Even comparing them to the McMahons is insane. It’s still going to happen, though. That's the last thing AEW should is him as a onscreen character. It'd be a crippling blow as fans are tired of owners inserting themselves into it

It’s weird some of us are expecting him to be an on camera personality when, besides this one promo, there’s no real evidence of a chance that’s happening.
Like, I know we Wrestling fans are trained in cynicism but could we wait until it happens before saying it does because Dixie Carter did it?

I dont know why you're so insistent that this is going to happen when you literally just stated why it won't happen Khan doesn't want the spotlight, he did the commercial for shits and giggles. He said he's very comfy just being the guy in the shadows on Dynamite that makes the matches, and maybe shows up on BTE every now and again. Most you'll probably see from him is Social Media Scrums and Calls and those are his bread and butter. He's talked in detail about how he believed authority figures inserting themselves into storylines deteriorated wrestling products over the years, so I just don't see Khan taking that chance with AEW also climbing up ratings wise.

It's very odd to see some wrestling fans chomping at the bit to say Khan is going to want to put more shine on himself because he owns the company, want to shamelessly compare him to The McMahons for no reason, or especially a guy who is only successful because of his Dad and isn't good at his job. How did we get all of that from a funny ad made for shits and giggles, that was two minutes long? Can we just like... laugh a little?

The issue isn’t with Tony Khan being an occasional onscreen character, it’s the possibility of him being a heel. An evil GM can’t work in AEW because they’re trying to emphasize believability in the card structure. If Khan’s onscreen trying to screw over talent, it means in canon that the company sucks. (Dixie’s angles in TNA had this problem real bad.)
It was fine with Dario in Lucha Underground, because the whole company was “cinematic wrestling” and so he could be a criminal and break whatever laws the story needed him to break. And it worked with Bischoff and Vince because of the nature of the nWo and Austin angles.
Tony can be briefly on screen every couple of weeks or every third week if he’s a Jack Tunney style neutral GM. I think younger generations of fans are forgetting who Tunney was and how that character worked in a wrestling show, watching the Authority act like jerks all the time for years. But that’s not the traditional commissioner role.

But that’s not the traditional commissioner role. Yep, I think that’s what people are imagining, myself included. He’s the dorky good guy boss who then turns on, say, Moxley. We don’t even need to go as far back as Tunney. William Regal is a great example of an authority figure done right.

"..if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you." - Nietzsche (Beyond Good and Evil: Prelude to a Philosophy of the Future [1886]) 1. People live to critique AEW. It's just how some people are. 2. People have been staring at the abyss for so long, they don't know how to look away.

Like, I know we Wrestling fans are trained in cynicism but could we wait until it happens before saying it does because Dixie Carter did it? I think two things work in Tony's favour for him not falling into the hole. One is an understanding of wrestling; he's the booker and he knows the booker will always get some amount of praise when a show is good, all he needs to do is keep doing that and whatever desire for attention he wants can be sated, on top of the previously stated stance on authority figures. The other is his background in sports ownership; there's a clear division there that can't be crossed and even the biggest cult of personality sports owners can only do so much. Dixie saw her wrestling company as an avenue to get onto reality TV and had Russo desperately sucking up to her about how she's a star to keep his job. If Tony keeps his shit to media appearances and a silly commercial then that's not really the threat to me that he's about to go Full Dixie.

Boy that was bad. Only thing I took from that was Tony looks kind of like booger from revenge of the nerds. Can't wait to see him become an onscreen character

If he seemed heelish I think that's just because it was on Impact. He kind of should come off that way on the competition.

No willing necessary when it is blossoming before our eyes When was Tony Khan's last promo on Dynamite? The commentators have steadily name dropped him as the shows have progressed. Even taz mentioned him. He's slowly been shown on camera in the back these last 2 weeks. And now this informercial. He's probably starting to get the itch... The itch of showing his face to the world. And with their steady success why wouldn't he want scratch. End of 2021 he probably will be a big authority figure and drop his first name and just call himself the Great Khan.

Tony really came off as a scummy heel. I loved it. I don't know if I'd call this heelish From a kayfabe perspective he's pretty dang justified in being mad at Kenny/Callis as the owner of AEW

When was Tony Khan's last promo on Dynamite? Better question, when was his first promo on Dynamite? That off-camera thing with Mox, I think, during one of the first shows. Also his ONLY promo on Dynamite.
