Did you think that Wes Scantlin singing "About A Girl" while passing a kidney stone would be the worst cover version of 2020? Well, let me introduce /inflict Jon Bon Jovi covering "Fairytale of New York". youtu.be/KB9vvxYocW0Yes, he sings BOTH parts. Not only does he change THAT lyric, he also, bizarrely, changes a whole bunch of lyrics. Mr Bon Jovi succeeds not only in sounding like he has never heard the song before, he also manages to butcher the pronunciation of "Galway". But wait, there's more! This is part of a Christmas EP which also includes a cover of Tom Petty's "Christmas All Over Again". I won't post a link to that as it is truly the worst thing to ever happen to Tom Petty.

Seriously though, I'll actually have to think about this one, because there seems to be an epidemic over the last few years of making cover songs and changing them to be softer sounding (a.k.a. way more boring) than the original. It's hard to differentiate them actually.

Some how, still not sure,I had never heard Fairytale of New York until about 10 years ago. And it is now part of my Xmas playlist, along with Fear's f*** Xmas,NOFX's Xmas has been Xed out,Eazy E's Merry Motherf***ing Xmas and about 10 other songs. I can imagine how horrid a Bon Jovi cover would be. I saw Bon Jovi live back when they were huge in the 80s. Wow they were not good live. And I have seen some really really shitty bands live. Bon Jovi was almost as bad as the time I watched a very drunk 3 Doors Down play at a house party.

how the f*** do you mispronounce Galway? Even if you never heard of it before - they sing it loads of times in the original and everyone has heard the original a million times.

This is the worst Jon Bon Jovi Christmas song since R2D2 We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

Why can't people just leave the song be? It's a classic, stop messing with it. Every single cover version of it has been bland and lifeless. It's not as if any of the covers will end up being the definitive version.
