Battle Royale 2 is also a Christmas movie for the reasons James listed for Batman Returns. Unfortunately that’s not a good movie except as a guilty pleasure.

All depends on how you justify Christmas movie.
do you count a christmas movie as just one that was set on or around Christmas... or one where Christmas is a key point... or the overall spirit/tone of the film... >_>
Regardless Gremlins is the greatest Christmas Movie and fits all three of those justifications -_q

The ones where it’s a key point of the plot like Miracle On 34th Street, I call those “unironic Christmas movies”.

I don’t see why a Xmas movie has to have snow. I’ve never seen a white Christmas in my life and I’m sure a lot of people haven’t either. Snow is not Xmas cannon!

And don't go with a "oh it is on the Northern Hemisphere!" excuse, cause I live on the Northern Hemisphere and I never had a white Christmas either

Even though there's no reference to Christmas, the scene where they're turning Murphy into Robocop takes place around Christmas (since we do see the New Years Party OCP is throwing).

I watch it around Christmas time, but woof this whole deal with "Die Hard etc are Christmas movies" are tiresome. If you want to call something set during Christmas a Christmas movie and that's your criteria, fine, but setting doesn't equal being thematically about Christmas or anything like that.
Nearly every single Shane Black movie is a Christmas movie if setting is the only requirement.
I guess from me the 'X movie that doesn't have anything to do with Christmas besides taking place at the time' has sort of become like the Chuck Norris jokes--the first time you heard it over a decade ago it was pretty clever, but that horse has been in a bottle of Elmer's for a LONG time.

Yeah, when I first heard it over like a decade ago... it was clearly meant as a haha aren't I clever saying that a movie that isn't really a "Christmas Movie" is being called a Christmas movie kinda thing... but it's the joke that won't die and then people try to argue that it totally is because basically set dressing of the movie. You can remove Christmas ENTIRELY from the plot of Die Hard and it is still the same movie. But it's a Christmas party! ... it could literally be any type of corporate party... for instnace... The Nakatomi Corporation are throwing a party celebrating the opening of their new building... Nakatomi corporation had a great quarter and are throwing a party for the executives. One of the higher ups is retiring and their throwing them a party. One of the higher ups is celebrating a big anniversary with the company... Literally any of those would fit the plot just fine.

I wish more people would embrace something as out there like Prometheus as a Christmas movie, even if Die Hard and Batman Returns are better movies.
