The Abridged series actually brings that up in Episode 4, Evergreen Nights: The Ballad of Bert Raccoon. Bert Raccoon Inner Monologue: Alright, Cyril, you're going down. If we win, I'm gonna head out to the local dumpster and feast like a KING!!
Wait, do we eat from dumpsters? I mean, I know we're wild animals, and stereotypically, raccoons do eat from garbage.
But we're talking animals who wear clothes. So we don't really do many animal-like things.
Then again, we don't wear much clothes. Ralph goes around in just a scarf, and I only know like two or three people who wear pants!!Also, I found this on YouTube: The Raccoons YouTube channel.I mainly remember the "Did you call me Mel?" exchange from that episode. Also, in the last new one, Ralph: I got things to do. Melissa: I'm things. So yes I have an unhealthy obsession with Ralph and Melissa's intimate lives.

Well I love to see some Three's Company misunderstanding jokes with the 3 Raccoons. An outsider comes to visit, and they just assume something vile is going on.

Well I love to see some Three's Company misunderstanding jokes with the 3 Raccoons. An outsider comes to visit, and they just assume something vile is going on. If Robot Chicken knew about them (and they knew of the Magic Garden out of WPIX in NY, so....), this would totally be a skit. Probably with Cyril Sneer as Mr. Roper. As I started watching mid-series, I didn't know Ralph and Melissa were married yet. So I just assumed that the three were just friends and roomies. The original special explains that Bert is a houseguest, presumably for the holidays. Somewhere along the way that became a permanent arrangement, I guess.

Okay, since I went through the trouble to write this on a YouTube video, here now is my Raccoons Canon Guide:
Here's what my Raccoons timeline is like....
Christmas Raccoons (didn't happen/did happen) : Most of it was a dream, but at the end we see the Raccoons are real. So maybe after this special is over, Schaeffer does indeed befriend them.
On Ice (Did happen) : Nothing suggests it was a dream, so this goes by the pattern many season one eps. went through: The humans have their own space, the animals the other. Schaeffer goes between the two worlds and the humans have NO idea what goes on in the Raccoons' community.
Lost Star (Didn't happen) : It's all a fantasy starring Schaeffer's friends as he dreams about them. The humans adopting Broo is just a coincidence. (I wonder what they thought when Broo one day disappeared to live with a bunch of Raccoons? And Schaeffer takes up residence in the Evergreen Forest too, for that matter)
Let's Dance (Did Happen) : Again, nothing suggests it's a dream. It's a little farfetched that Bert went to NASA and commandeered a rocket ship, however.
And the series picks up at this point. Most of it starts by following On Ice's format, until we never see the humans again.
(After realizing their forest was being overtaken by talking animals, they probably effin' killed themselves. Bert Raccoon is Traaaaaaash...! ;-))

On December 17, 1980, we were introduced to a place, slightly a ways north, on the day before, the day before Christmas. (EDIT: Which is today as I am editing this, the 23rd...) Yes, I speak of the Evergreen Forest: BTW, go to 2:35 in the video. You can't unsee it now...

I'm the only person who keeps adding to this, it seems. But I found this when looking at the TV Tropes page for the Raccoons:
When? Just....when?
Me and another friend who watched the show theorized it was a reference to the scene when Melissa is going to use "her feminine wiles" in Cold Feet! Other than that, I am stumped!
