At 59% on RT right now, at 85 reviews. I still consider that pretty damn good for this kind of movie.

It is now my understanding that Mortal Kombat contains no Mortal Kombat.

An hour and two minutes in and I'm still waiting for the much talked about fight scenes. This is pretty awful so far.
Oh and I can't wait for Johnny Cage to be played by a half black half asian transgender vegan feminist in the sequel.

I've seen you rage about SJW'S in other topics and I'm not impressed with your schtick

I asked “Then what’s it about?” and he says “Mostly just killing each other in between training for the tournament that never happens. It’s like if you watched The Mighty Ducks and Emilio Estevez just gave an inspirational speech about how far the kids have come and then it cuts to credits before they can play the championship game against the Hawks.”

The Mortal Kombat games have always had a very diverse cast of people from all backgrounds and ethnicities (and other worlds). I don't get the complaint over this. If anything, looking at the cast list, they've done a good job casting everyone as their intended ethnicity from the games. Yes, including the white characters.

So, just finished watching Mortal Kombat and yeahhhhh, it was great. It's not so much the violent gore-fest we might want, but when it gets violent, it's f***ing brutal. Lots of setting up for a sequel, which is fine, may as well. Only thing, and I've seen some director interviews talking about it, I kinda wish they didn't give a shit about the rating and just went as far as they wanted. Like, maybe there's just only so far you can go with even an R rating, but still felt a little held back. But eh, whatever. I don't get the reviews saying it's boring, though. Like, there's gonna be story, but it's not at all boring. {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}So, couple things. I really didn't mind not having a tournament because one, it's been done and I appreciate them not trying to redo the first MK movie. And two, like, most of the games don't even have tournaments. Really, only 1, 2, and part of 9 have tournaments happen. The rest are "Villain f***s shit up, heroes try to stop him/her".
Also as for the characters, mostly good selections. Nitara got kinda shafted, though at least she died to a solid Kung Lao fatality. I don't get how Kano's eye isn't mechanical, though, and how it shorted out. Also, Kabal! Sub-Zero looking like a f***ing monster! Love it.

Mate, the fact that your ostensible craziest casting idea sounds like an actual person who exists in my social circle, and that you consider a performer being vegan or feminist to be a deal breaker for you just makes you look even more pathetic.

Just as dumb as people losing their shit over Micheal B Jordan being cast as Johnny Storm because for some reason he must be white

I’ve always thought the 1995 film was an average film that gets over-praised simply because it’s one of the rare video game film adaptations that isn’t complete wank. Looks like the new film might be along the same lines too.

Not that there's anything wrong with the idea of having a white kid adopted into a black family and I'm fine with seeing that onscreen in its own right, but that really just felt like them being unwilling to have Sue and Reed be an interracial couple.

I’d cast that dude as the lead in a Wayne Gretzky biopic if he was interested in the script. I don’t care what the character is, if Michael B. Jordan is interested in my script he can play whoever the f*** he wants. He can play Robert E. Lee, I wouldn’t give a shit, Michael B. Jordan would be in my movie!!! I thought it was pretty good, I think my biggest problems with it are the length and the pacing? Do feel like they probably should've shaved about 20 minutes off the first hour and... {Spoiler}Cut down some of when Shang Tsung attacks them while training to give more time to the individual fights afterward. Don't think it'll be quite as rewatchable as the first one given that, but I wanted some cool Mortal Kombat shit and some sick Fatalities and I got those at least, even if it does kind of feel like the movie advertised more of that than it really delivers on. {Spoiler}I could probably go on for a bit about the plot, but it's not really the point anyway so whatever. Though Nitara and Reiko were both very wasted, especially Reiko; don't even know the point of calling him that when the extent of the resemblance is having a hammer. You could've called that guy Torr and it probably would've been about as appropriate. And how the hell do you have him die at the Pit and not end up falling into the spikes? Though at least Nitara has an awesome death.
Also not really sure on the decision to kill off as many characters as they did. Kano in particular I think a sequel would suffer for not having because he's by far the most fun part of the cast in this one, though Mileena, Kabal, and Goro particularly stand out as characters you could do way more with. At least they lay the groundwork for Johnny Cage in the sequel, that'll probably help a lot with the absence of Kano.
Also I found it really confusing how they seemed to treat it like Shang Tsung rules Outworld yet had multiple nods to Shao Kahn. So yeah, on the whole, I enjoyed it. It's not perfect but it's fun and that's all I really wanted out of it. As for Cole... {Spoiler}I think he's alright provided you keep Scorpion around as the occasional call-in. He has kind of a fun gimmick at least and he does work fine as kind of an everyman heart of the team sort keeping things a bit grounded while not really getting in the way of the more interesting characters around him. He's not the most interesting member of the cast certainly but I thought he slotted in fine and never really found him obnoxious or anything. I don't think I'd mind if he wound up being reworked a bit to be DLC for 11 or something.
