"The Man With The Golden Arm" where Ralphie's Old Man tries to keep Sinatra hooked on the horse.

... "Shrek"? I understand why a lot of the others but "Shrek"? That movie was a massive cultural phenomenon and it basically put DreamWorks Animation on the map as a legit competitor to Disney in the feature length animation world

The thing I'm most confused about with the internet is its undying obsession with Shrek. tt was an ok movie that aged poorly as soon as it came out. I mean...a Matrix bullet time reference *two* years after that movie was out and had been done to death?

Shrek is one I just didn't care for. But man everybody I knew back then with young kids loved it. Might be cause they could put on the DVD and the kids were still and quiet for ever how long the film is.

surprised some of these weren't already in.
Yeah, Shrek has become a meme now but at the time it was released it was a big deal it pretty much made Dreamworks for better or worse and was a decent twist on the standard Disney story...
of course a lot of it has aged poorly especially the things they put in to be "current" and you realize how petty some of it was literally because Eisner didn't want to give the genius behind Quibi a promotion...

Yeah, we have to remember the National Film Registry isn’t really a “The best films of all time” sort of thing but a “cultural relevance” collection and if we’re talking about it that way, Grease should have been in years ago and Shrek has its place.

I think I'm most confused by Blues Brothers.

I think I'm most confused by Blues Brothers. It was a major cult hit and continues to be referenced a fair bit. Plus, you've got performances from figures like Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Cab Calloway and Ray Charles all in one movie, which help with the cultural aspect.

Though Kid Auto Races at Venice was in already.
For those who don't know, that's the first film of Chaplin in his Tramp character getup.

I know... I just hate Grease so much... Also Shrek won the first Oscar for animated film so I don't know if it should get in solely on that but it helps its case.

Hey, I’m not a fan of Grease either for the most part but it’s like my dislike of Kingdom Hearts has to be put aside since Sora deserves to be in Smash Bros for cultural presence. And yeah, completely forgot about that. In that regard, yeah, absolutely should be in for that alone.
