It turns out that gaining momentum before the PPV isn't the draw it once was.

It's crazy to think how badly Raws ratings have collapsed in the last 3 of 4 years.
Fully deserved but still crazy.

Apparently, last week’s AEW Dynamite beat all three hours of Raw in 18-49.

Worth noting from looking at the actual chart, unless you were a news show or football, you did incredibly poorly last night. Football and the news absolutely murdered every other show on TV last night. It was a complete bloodbath for any shows going up against them.

I think WWE should retroactively edit that 2020 video they did and add “You took away our audience” because it also metaphorically took the plug out of the drain in terms of ratings. Sheesh.

Yeah I know people don't like AEW talk being brought in, but Dynamite beat all three hours of RAW this week in 18-49 demo. Even if it's just one week, that's huge, that's absolutely huge, and there's no way TNT isn't looking at that. For the company to be a year old and accomplish that in the pandemic era is incredible.
Back to RAW, I get there was a really good Monday Night Football Game on, but that game didn't get REAL GOOD till the 4th. That doesn't excuse the show opening flat and then dying a death. The show flat out has been some cheeks for awhile now, and now they're spinning their wheels till the Rumble, with an obvious, quite boring TLC Card, fans are tuning out, and they're tuning out in ways that delivers WWE all time record low numbers.
Just saying every time we think we hit the devoted fanbase or rock bottom, they show they can lose more fans, and I would not be shocked if a number like this makes Vince panic and promise something like Stone Cold next week for no reason.

Football and the news absolutely murdered every other show on TV last night. It was a complete bloodbath for any shows going up against them. For context: Ravens vs. Browns was an all-timer, and the news was covering the Electoral College voting, along with Joe Biden making a speech in prime time.

Should also be said, even if it was an off day on all of TV...they were doing 1.7m on a consistent basis. That’s still not that great compared to where they were at the start of the year.

Is it really that big a news to anyone but AEW dieshards? AEW is on a whole entire other night and Raw was up against a really damn great football game and news about electoral college voting and Bidens speech. This would be something if AEW were going head to head with Raw IMO but they don't.

AEW has competition every week with a whole other wrestling company trying to hold them down, it ain't RAW, but it's a WWE brand. Yes, it matters. And let's not act like AEW hasn't had to deal with big political events and Playoff Sports games before and been able to hold firm in that demo I get the aspect of being head to head with AEW, but no outside of diehards this really will matter when it comes to advertisers. RAW's viewership is on the decline and aside from clickbait week long ways to get viewers back in some small dose that's continues throughout this entire year..

I wonder the factors that lead to this rating, because I feel like December the last couple years have seen record low rating Raws.
Not to defend Raw either. I've pretty much stop watching Raw. Everything feels so similar and stale I just don't care.
It's just weird that Raw numbers are dropping (however, they still are among the highest rated programs on cable) yet Smackdown is often #1 or #2 on network tv. Perhaps that has to do with the day of the week.

Remember when they promised grand sweeping change like two years ago when they got then record low ratings and blamed Baron Corbin for all of it? "YOU ARE THE AUTHORITY NOW" they all said in a grand standing effort to pretend like they cared and that they would actually make any effort to do something.
I bet you they wish it was two years ago at this f***ing point. Also for being blamed for the ratings cratering Baron Corbin sure has been featured prominantly since...

Three hours is just not sustainable for a weekly wrestling show.

AEW is on a whole entire other night and Raw was up against a really damn great football game and news about electoral college voting and Bidens speech. This would be something if AEW were going head to head with Raw IMO but they don't. Well it is newsworthy in the sense that this has been a trend over the past six months that seems to be accelarating. The 18-49 gap between AEW and RAW has been closing and that has real ramifications both in terms of future TV deals (WWE should be fine/see marginal increases but it could be a boon to AEW) and how Vince books his shows. I think he's lost his touch but he's bound to try something (probably ending the brand split like he usually does). As for whether you can compare the two, it's difficult to say. RAW usually has more direct sports competition but AEW has a wrestling show against it that takes away some of its viewers. Monday has also been the established wrestling night of the week for decades. That is possibly changing but being established does matter. Last night had more competition than the previous two weeks but the weeks before that had even stronger competition (see the graph below). RAW always faces tough competition at this point in the year and has fared fairly well most weeks this fall up until recently. The normal drop for MNF never really came. The simplest explanation is that something is clicking for one show and not the other. It's also not just a WWE thing since Smackdown has held steady and even seen some increases over the past month. I totally get if most people don't care about these comparisons but they do matter to people in the industry. Vince wants to keep his competition's ratings down for a reason (hence why NXT is there). But part of that is keeping your ratings up which he is currently failing to do for one of his two major shows.

In case of emergency break glass for stone cold. His entrance makes so much more sense now.

The thing is, while this is an anomaly it's also definitely where the trend is heading longterm. WWE's been slowly bleeding out for a long time and there's zero sign of it getting better.

Monday Night Football had an insane 3.57 in the demo alone.
