The dad, albeit not a very perceptive man, was pretty nice, no?

Why were the McCallisters such assholes? Rich white early 90s movie family (particularly John Hughes movie families). Usually bodes a lot of a-holes.

It's really my only complaint of the film. I know it's going for a "we take family for granted" message, but the ending would be more heartwarming if at least a couple of family members were nice.

That one aunt was pretty chill and decent to Kevin, too bad she was married to the king asshole himself Uncle Frank.

Also the Wet Bandits were terrible burglars. When they're at the neighbors house Daniel Stern is just throwing valuables into a bag. How do they expect to sell stuff on the black market if it's broken?

The mom's alright. I think she's just over-stressed by this big ass extended family and, combined with the usual stress of the holidays, doesn't want to put up with anyone's bullshit.

And, as much as Kevin got "dumped on" in his words, he could be a pain himself. Playing with glue guns in the garage, refusing to pack, jumping around and yelling etc. I can see why she was done with him by the end of the night. Even if the rest of the family was much worse.

He can at least say it wasn't him who flooded every house they robbed. Meaning when they were caught, the cops knew how many counts of burglary to charge them with.

To me it wouldn't have been nearly as funny if they weren't. It's part of the whole charm of the movie.

I think they are a-holes because you then relate to Kevin when he feels that everything would be better if he was just alone. But I do see your point.

Home Alone 2 wasn't his fault. Buzz humiliated him in public and got away with a fake apology.

I've kinda wondered if the family wasn't basically portrayed in the movie as Kevin saw them.
You know, the way any 8 year old kid would think about their family for screwing up his pizza night. Bunch of jerkasses that could disappear the next day without a trace and his world would be better for it.

Buzz kind of had to be, as his conflict with Kevin was the catalyst for the rest of the family turning on him and ultimately leaving him home.
The rest of the kids, just seemed like typical sibling stuff.

I don't know if any cinematic portrayal of every day pizza has ever looked so bad yet so mouth watering at the same time. It confuses my brain.

I think it was supposed to be from Kevin's perspective. But he isn't really doing anything *that* annoying and there's 0 reason (other than it's fake) that Buzz wouldn't have been disciplined by an adult for being a giant ass during dinner.
